The Event of the Month San Francisco ...

**The Event: **Gap celebrates the launch of Individuals: Portraits From the Gap Collection

**The Location: **Beautiful Yerba Buena Center in downtown San Francisco

**The Reason We Care: **The event celebrated the launch of Gap's first coffee-table book, Individuals. The book is part of Gap's global partnership with (Product) RED. Founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver, (Product) RED is an initiative designed to get companies around the world involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa. All of Gap's profits from the sale of Individuals will go to the Global Fund to finance programs that help women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.

**The Biggest Score: **A one-on-one interview with the mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom. The mayor, a highly coveted bachelor among the single ladies of San Francisco, looked boyishly cute with floppy bangs in place of his signature, more styled look. I managed to grab a few minutes with him and immediately asked the important questions … about fashion and women, of course!

Glam: Do you have a favorite designer or a particular look you like to wear?

The Mayor: My favorite designer is whoever did this T-shirt tonight. [Editor's note: He was wearing a red T-shirt with “Mayo(RED)” written across the front, supporting one of the night's sponsors, (Product) RED] All I can say is that as a guy who grew up in San Francisco, a fifth-generation San Franciscan, how proud I am that Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy all started here. And now they're doing something of global significance and really giving back in a meaningful way. This also establishes an identity to the brand that will have a bigger symbolic impact.

Glam: Do you have a favorite look on a woman? Casual or formal?

The Mayor: Yes. Organic, real, casual, just be yourself. Don't try to manufacture someone you're not.

Glam: So you prefer less makeup?

The Mayor: Yes, I like less makeup. I like people to just be themselves. Be natural. Everyone needs to be unique and individualistic. And the most natural people have the greatest personalities and are the most interesting and dynamic people I know.

Glam: What is your favorite piece of clothing right now?

The Mayor: It used to be my white shirt and tie, but now it's my new Gap Mayor(RED) T-shirt.
