Those crazy kids at Dynamism sent me an email to say that they have the OQO Model O2 available for preorder. OQO had originally placed an entire PC, QWERTY keyboard and all, into a package the size of my open palm, and now they've redesigned the device to address the problems in the first model. The entire machine measures 5.6 x 3.3 x 1.0in (142 x 84 x 25mm), and at less than one pound it's a perfect match if your goal is ultra portability. The active touch screen is a 5" LCD at 800x480, and there's an HDMI out at up to 1920x1200 and a VGA adapter for older devices.
For hardware, a fully optioned Model 02 has a 1.5GHz VIA C7M processor, a max RAM capacity of one gig, and a 60 gigabyte hard drive with drop detection. Wifi and Bluetooth are standard, and there's an optional WWAN EV-DO module for Sprint's mobile cellular data service. There's an optional docking station with a stand and a DVD burner, so for a lucky few business travelers out there this might be a perfect mobile presentation solution. With all the bells and whistles the OQO rings up at $2,300 so it's comparable with other ultra mobile solutions.
Mia is currently running herself silly on the CES floor, and she sent me a quick text to say that the Model 02 feels so much nicer in the hands, and that she loves the new thumb keyboard design. Check below the fold for a few more images.
