Summer is about to be officially in full-swing and that means restaurants in New York City will be swinging open their doors and kicking off the coveted alfresco dining season. New Yorkers love to celebrate the end of a long winter by hitting the outdoor tables as soon as the warm weather arrives. From chic rooftop bars to charming sidewalk cafés, there is truly something for everyone this summer in Manhattan. Not sure where to go? I have scoured the city and found the 8 best outdoor bars and restaurants in NYC.

Enjoy a Fritto Misto or Tagliatelle alla Bolognese at one of the alfresco tables at this rustic West Village trattoria. Its location on a lively block off Seventh Avenue South makes it a prime people-watching destination.

This celeb hangout is situated on one of the prettiest blocks in the West Village. Although the prices are high, the incredible ambiance and location makes it all worthwhile. Enjoy a Risotto alla Milanese with the sounds of Italian chatter in the background. Don't forget to pick up a frothy cappuccino and scoop of homemade gelato from the pasticceria on your way out!

Sitting high above the posh Gramercy Park Hotel, this ultra-exclusive bar/lounge/restaurant is by far one of the prettiest and most romantic rooftops in the city. Feel as if you were magically transported to a romantic garden paradise with lush landscaping, flickering candlelight in every corner and an abundance of specialty cocktails and tasty small plates.

Chef Joey Fortunato serves inventive Mediterranean cuisine alfresco at this charming eatery located on a tree-lined West Village street. Enjoy an order of Frites with Gorgonzola Fondue alfresco at one of their prime outdoor tables. Brunch is also incredibly popular at Extra Virgin, so get there early and order the scrumptious Basque Scramble!
