Is Hollywood 'Cruel' to Ageing Women in Hollywood?

Scarlett Johansson has openly criticized Hollywood for its treatment of older actresses. She said that the careers of women "wilt" beyond a certain age.

The actress, who stars with Penelope Cruz in the Woody Allen starrer "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" does not have to worry about ageism in Hollywood anytime soon. She's only 23 years old.

But what if she reaches the age that Demi Moore or Sharon Stone has now? How 'meaty' will the roles be if she can't fulfill the Hollywood stereotype of being hot, perky and young anymore?

As 45-year old Mrs. Ashton Kutcher herself pointed out:

There aren't that many good roles for women over 40. A lot of them don't have much substance, other than being someone's mother or wife.
-Demi Moore

That’s too bad for Demi, Sharon and all the other 40+ actresses out there who can put the younger starlets to shame simply because they cannot act and they've got no talent.

I personally think that it's time to put these talented, although 'older' actresses back to work - especially since they have that edge of experience. The typical young, blonde, beautiful and popular stigma easily wears thin. Sometimes, it's the substance of acting that should matter.
