Is Daydreaming Just a Waste of Your Time?

I am as guilty of daydreaming as the next person, especially when I was in high school. I remember my teacher trying to get back my attention, because it has always been thought that daydreaming is a waste of time. But looking at it from the perspective of health experts, daydreaming actually occurs during the times when nothing engaging forces you to think ‘actively’ - because daydreaming is the brain’s normal state.

Instead of it being a non-productive pastime, there are actually a lot of benefits to daydreaming. When your mind is engaged in fanciful and pleasant thoughts, it helps you to relax and ‘go back to the real world’ feeling refreshed, as if you have just taken a satisfying nap. In addition, daydreaming helps manage conflict, maintain relationships and it boosts a person’s productivity. With all these benefits and more, it is definitely a good thing to allow yourself to daydream every once in a while - and momentarily drift off to la-la-land.
