Russian Revolution

**The Czarina look **is the most dramatic of the season, with folkloric embroidery, fur coats and accessories. You'll find tapestry jackets in longer lengths and butter-soft leather kitten-heel boots. There are Cossack numbers with embellished ribbons gathering the shearling found within.

You'll be in style with gaucho pants **- a new interpretation from the '70s - and a vintage mink coat, satin blouses, toe-peeper shoes and **colorful brooches, this time worn in the hair.

The softest fabrics that glisten and shine with silver threads, sequins and hand-painted beads will leave you feeling mysterious and ultra-feminine.

Choose** a single statement necklace** to make the look complete or buckskin flat-heeled boots, a metallic fisherman's hat or a bit of a bouffant with back-combed, big hair.

Elegance

This season, fashion designers have embraced the romantic to bring us luscious looks from the Russian Steppes, a **pared down International Style and crisp ****officer coats**** and camo separates that reflect the climate of a country at war.
**
Fashion follows our mood and in these extraordinary times we have rid ourselves of the unnecessary, lost ourselves around a campfire through the yearnings of a gypsy guitar and stepped up to be counted in the war against terrorism here and abroad.

But we haven't lost our love of life, our desire for color, our addiction to European fabrics. We search out the new, insist on the finest and find new ways to express our inner selves.

Military Attention

Cargo pants, camouflage print, combat boots and big brass buttons. The military look is back in a big way this fall, with fresh interpretations in myriad colors and styles. The season's "must have" item: the officer's coat. The No. 1 accessory for men and women: Aviator sunglasses.

The look is sculpted theatrical collars, quilting lending an architectural bend, leather jackets with lots of attitude, short boots and vintage scarves. Dog tags have been recast as silver necklaces; frame bags are the purses of choice for the dollies left behind.

Look for grommet bags in a variety of shapes, **short boots with high heels **for under skinny slacks and chiffon. Yes, chiffon in the winter, but worn under layers of turtlenecks and furs.

The look includes vintage bombers reinterpreted in metallic peach or whiskey mink, cropped cargos, berets, Katherine Hepburn slacks in black flannel or very dark green. Shearling is everywhere - not just inside coats but in wraps, boots, gloves and purses.

Boxy little jackets in velvet with jodhpur-length pants work well with spit-shined riding boots and over-size "saddle" bags. And our favorite Prada riding boot in glowing bronze. Wear them all this season - and stand up straight.

Minimized

This season's pared-down looks mean minimalism is on the rise. Look for the simple, clean lines of an Armani suit, long slim pants and a beautifully tailored jacket, or a cashmere sweater cinched at the waist.

Black is the new black, but dark, inky indigo looks good, too.

Leggings are back, and some of this season's **straight pants **plunge to the floor in a pool of fabric, just like those '80s legwarmers.

Less is more in city-style suits with close-fitting jackets and **simple architectural dresses in neutral and black. **

The look is** elegant and infinitely wearable. **

A tip: Hemlines are knee-length for day and mid-calf for evening.
