My dad just took a trip to Seoul and brought back a bunch of stuff for the toddler including these bunny trainer chopsticks made by a company called INP in Korea. We've written about a few training chopsticks before, most recently the Combi Trainers, but I haven't tested them out so I don't know how effective they are in training young kids on using chopsticks. But these Edison trainers? They really work. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it, but within just 3 meals with the trainers, the 2.5 year old toddler was picking up pieces of meat and even clumps of rice - Chinese rice, no less, which is less sticky than Korean or Japanese rice. Wow! Considering I held chopsticks the wrong way for the first 8 years of my life, I'm impressed. The key is obviously in the positioning loops which teach you where to correctly place your fingers. It also comes with "ledges" that you can attach instead of the loops for when your kid becomes a bit more comfortable and skilled. My parents haven't seen her use them yet, but no doubt they'll be pleased. Since, in appearance, she looks nothing like my side of the family (meaning, for a half asian kid, she pretty much looks white... and yes, I get asked if I'm her mom all the time), my parents take much pleasure in the fact that she eats like a true Korean. You can get some more info on the chopsticks on their English translation page. And you gotta love the photo of the 2 kids eating cake with chopsticks. [...]
