Goodbye brat girl summer, hello demure girl autumn. Anyone who’s been on social media the last few weeks has almost certainly heard the phrase “very demure, very mindful.” Soft launching a boyfriend? Very demure, very classy. Green cut crease eye makeup? Not demure.
It all started with a video posted by Jools Lebron, the TikTok influencer who inspired the demure movement of girls nationwide.
“You see how I do my makeup for work? Very demure, very mindful,” says Jools. “I don’t come to work with a green-cut crease. I don’t look like a clown when I go to work. I don’t do too much. I’m very mindful while I’m at work.”
Social media has exploded with videos of what’s demure and what isn’t. Demure is all about being respectful, mindful, and classy, which lends itself more to certain beauty trends than to others. To help with that, here’s a list of which beauty trends are demure (and which are so not):

1. Natural foundation: demure
There’s a time and a place for going bold with makeup, but the workplace calls for minimalism. A good base with a touch of foundation in one’s natural color is very demure.
2. Too much skin in the workplace: not demure
They say “If you got it, flaunt it,” but there’s something demure about knowing when to hold back. As Jools says, sometimes a peek of skin is all one needs.
3. Pink lips: demure
Black lipstick is very 90s, but right now soft, pink lips are where it’s at. The most demure choice is to find a shade that best suits one’s skin tone and let it enhance the natural color of the lips.
4. Over-the-top eyeshadow palettes: not demure
