Frequently asked questions

6 Cut down on the Sugar

Excessive sugar isn’t good for anyone, health wise or for teeth. Cutting down on the amount of sugar you eat will not only reduce the risk of diabetes, but it will also help you keep your weight in check a bit better. Your body can only use so much sugar, then the excess is stored as fat. When you quit supplying your body with an abundance of sugar it will then resort to using stored fat for the energy it needs.

5 Don't Eat out as Often

Fast food and even some sit-down restaurants deep fry a lot of their menu choices. Most fast food restaurants have menus made up entirely of fried foods. They are great places for a quick meal, but eating too many meals at these places will clog your arteries with a fatty residue that is just waiting to develop into the perfect trigger for causing a stroke.

4 Don't Take up Smoking or Quit if You Already Smoke

Nicotine in cigarettes causes the walls of arteries to become thinner and the body cannot circulate blood adequately. Cholesterol deposits are left on arterial walls thanks to the carbon monoxide given off by cigarettes. High cholesterol and weak arterial walls is the perfect environment for a stroke to take place in.

3 Monitor Your Blood Pressure

High blood pressure causes too much stress on arterial walls. Eventually these thin walls weaken enough to cause a stroke. Two different types of strokes can occur from high blood pressure; hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes. Both types of stroke take place in blood vessels within the brain. Keeping your blood pressure low will greatly reduce damage to blood vessels in your brain and lessen the chance of a stroke resulting.

2 Reduce Stress Levels

It’s amazing at how many health risks are associated with high stress levels. Stress often causes an increase in blood pressure, which as you know from number 3 on this list that high blood pressure is conducive to a stroke.

1 Have a Check up Each Year

Be sure to discuss any health concerns with your doctor. You can usually manage multiple health issues by simply changing your eating habits and getting at least a little bit of exercise. Get some suggestions from your doctor for other ways to avoid a stroke. There are numerous ways that doctors have found to help people who have a high risk of becoming a stroke victim.
