While summer is my favorite season, I also love fall, and for so many reasons! While it means the start of another semester of college (ugh!), it also means the start of one of my favorite times of year. Why am I such a fan of a season that leads, inevitably, to the chill and bluster of winter? Here are 7 reasons I look forward to fall… how many of these are you excited about, too?

I am a big fan of college football, especially the Wolverines from the University of Michigan. For me, fall really begins at the end of August, at the start of the college football season, and I’m never more excited! Go Blue!

Here in Michigan, we may not have mountains, or the ocean, but we do have the Great Lakes and thousands upon thousands of acres of maples, birches, and other trees that burst into a medley of gorgeous autumn golds and reds. Every fall I plan a day trip to see, and photograph, the fall color.

Is there anything more delicious than a hot cup of fresh-pressed apple cider, especially with a warm, soft cinnamon donut to dunk? I live within an hour of about a half-dozen cider mills, and I make it a point to visit them all at least once during the fall…

Halloween is my favorite holiday, and it’s one of the reasons I can’t wait for fall! I love trick-or-treating with my daughter, and seeing all of the other little kids in their adorable, clever costumes. It’s quite an event in my little small-town neighborhood, and I’m already excited about it!

Who doesn’t look great in leggings or jeans and a cozy sweater and cute books, or a blazer with a vintage tee underneath? I love fall fashions… they’re so flattering, and I always look forward to adding to my fall wardrobe after a summer of floaty dresses and skirts.

Along with the joy of fall comes the knowledge that winter is just around the corner, and one way to combat the near-panic of this is by looking even further ahead to spring by planting bulbs! I love planting daffodils and crocuses because I know that in just a couple of months, they’ll be the first harbingers of spring!

It’s hard to sleep when it’s hot and muggy, so one of the other reasons I look forward to fall is the chill night air. It’s perfect for sleeping, and I love hearing the sounds of late summer, like crickets chirping and bats squeaking.
Those are just a few of the reasons I look forward to autumn each year, this year especially! Which of these do you agree with, and what else would you add to my list? Please let me know!
