When I was little, a belt was just something I used to hold up my pants (I was a skinny-minnie). I didn’t care what they looked like (though I did want Mork from Ork rainbow suspenders at one point). Now, a belt is a bona-fide accessory, able to nip my waist or call attention to another feature of an outfit. A good belt is still hard to find, but a quick check of my favorite online shop, ModCloth, has revealed a new batch of belts that I just have to have. Here are 7 cute belts.

Almost any ensemble you own could be improved by this shiny sleek belt. It’s super-skinny, adding just a glimmer of gold to your little black dress, your best tweed suit, your high-waisted pencil skirt. Make sure your other jewelry and accessories co-ordinate, gold with gold, so you don’t clash. Perfect!

This belt is available in a rainbow of bright, happy colors, but I like the Kelly green the best. I’d wear this with a pretty floral-print dress and ballet flats, or skinny jeans and an oversized tunic and wedges. Again, be sure your handbag and bangles match the silver.

Add a hint of punk-rock glam to your work-week with this studded belt, cinching it around an otherwise demure pair of pin-stripe pants and fitted blouse… or layer it with a tunic and patterned leggings… or a super-mini and patterned top…

This belt is all details, all Wild West here in the mild Midwest. I love the tiny horse details, the bronze-y studs, and the comfortable, flattering stretchy material. I’d wear this with a chambray mini or dress or skinny jeans and a tunic. And maybe some cowboy ankle-boots? Why not?

You’ve heard of a statement ring or necklace, so why not a statement belt, like this one? It’s made of faux brownish-grey croc with bright metal accents. Pair with a skirt and blouse for work or with skinny jeans or leggings and patterned tights with a clutch.

Add a bright spot of sunshine even on the greyest winter day with this pretty rope-clasp belt. I love this color with grey, actually, so I’d wear this with a slinky sheath dress, opaque tights, a black clutch, and fabulous heels.

This belt by Chinese Laundry is one of m favorites this season. I love the open-weave pattern and the soft, pretty faux suede. It would look smashing with a tunic or shirt-dress, or to pull together a shift and skirt combo. Pair with matching shoes and pretty hoop earrings… note that this belt runs large, so order a size down from what you normally would.
Aren’t those belts all gorgeous? My little belt hanger runneth over, but that’s a good thing! Which of these pretty belts do you like best, and what would you wear it with? Or is there another belt you like more?
