It's great to discover a "new" author, and if they've already produced a series featuring the same character, you have the pleasure of starting at the beginning without having to wait for the next book. Here are some series I recommend.
Or Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels. You may have seen the TV series "True Blood". Why not try reading the source novels? I'm working my way through them and enjoying every one.
Philip Pullman "His Dark Materials" trilogy -- aimed at older children but is one of those series that adults can read. Beats Harry Potter hands down.

This is a series that goes on and on and on. George Simenon churned out around 80 novels featuring the pipe-smoking detective, and I have most of them. In the original French! Not to mention hundreds of other works, which I don't have room for (Simenon was rather prolific …).
Lewis’ style of writing may be a little stiff by modern standards, but the Narnia series richly deserves the epithet "well-loved". If you didn’t read the books as a child, catch up now.

Best known as the author of the Tarzan books, Edgar Rice Burroughs also wrote a series of books set on Mars. The extreme inaccuracy of the books may be excused by the fact that they are about 100 years old, and that Burroughs therefore lacked today’s knowledge of the Red Planet. They are what would have been described as a ‘rattling good yarn’.

Starting with ‘A is for Alibi’, Grafton is working her way through a series featuring a female private detective. Kinsey is an interesting character, and by naming each book after a letter of the alphabet, the author has ensured a lengthy series. It will be interesting to see how she gets round the usual problem of the letter X …

As series go, somewhat shorter than Grafton’s efforts, but the first Bourne trilogy are cracking good books. They were even turned into great films. The later books were written after Ludlum’s death – make up your own mind on that.

Have you read any of these? Would you recommend them? Do you have any other suggestions?
