5 Things I Wanted to Be when I Was a Little Girl ...

December is always nostalgic for me. And with re-living past Christmases come the memories of my silly dreams as a kid. Here are 5 things I wanted to be when I was a little girl. Don't judge, okay?

1 Teacher

My mom is a university professor and up until I was 6 or 7, I assumed that we owned the school where she taught. Ridiculous, I know. The school was actually my playground and at a young age, I liked the idea of sitting and talking in front of a class. Strangely, public-speaking is one of my "fears" now.

Frequently asked questions

2 Nun

I can actually remember people asking me what I wanted to be when I grow up and answering "Nun!" I had an older cousin who was training to be a nun back then and I liked that our other relatives were very nice to her. Not that they had reasons not be nice to me...

3 Greeting Card Illustrator

We are a family of illustrators. Not professionally, no, but I grew up in a house where drawing was one of the major activities. The dream to be a greeting card illustrator was borne out of a project that one of my older cousins did for his drawing class. He drew that classic Santa Claus near the chimney and Christmas tree scene in watercolor. I was only 7 then and could only draw paperdolls but the moment I laid eyes on the drawing, I set my sights on drawing holiday cards. In a strange turn of events, it was my sister who learned to paint using watercolor.

4 Postcard Photographer

I had another cousin living in another country and she'd send us postcards with the most wonderful scenes. That was the time I fell in love with photography and I had this silly dream to photograph landscapes and sell them to postcard companies.

5 Avon Lady

You know, the kind who goes door to door and offer housewives wonderful deals. I used to carry this clothes hanger around and pretend it's my magical bag of Avon goodies. I could've borrowed one of my mom's handbags, yes, but a hanger just felt better to carry around. I don't know why, you have to ask my 7-year old self. What I would do was knock on random walls of our house and pretend to offer people Avon deals. Fun times.

Now I'd love to hear what you wanted to be when you were still young. Did you ever reach your childhood dreams? None of these 5 are remotely related to what I do now but I still dabble in drawing and I collect books like a teacher would. Photography is one of my hobbies, too.
