So we all know that it’s important to have a healthy metabolism, whether you are trying to lose weight or purely just for everyday health, but how do you know when yours has problems? Here’s the top 12 signs that you have a metabolism problem...
7 Signs of Over-Active Metabolism
Unexplained weight loss
Fatigue
Hand tremors
Rapid heartbeat
Vision problems
Low tolerance for heat
Large lump in or on throat
All of these are signs of an overactive metabolism, which is usually due to a hormone issue. There are many ways to treat it, depending on its severity, including tablets, radioactive iodine treatment and gland removal.
6 Signs of Under-Active Metabolism
Unexplained weight gain
Fatigue
Slow Heartbeat
Constipation
Dry skin
Low tolerance of cold
These are all signs of an underactive metabolism, but this is usually slightly easier to treat. While it can be hormone related, it can also be due to a lack of iodine in your diet. If you have these symptoms but can’t get to the doctors, try adding iodine rich foods such as seaweed, saltwater fish, soy milk or yoghurt to your diet, and seeing if there is an improvement.
‘Thyroid Nodules’ Condition
Tiny lumps in the throat
Trouble swallowing
Occasionally these symptoms can occur, which usually indicates a condition called ‘Thyroid Nodules’. These are tiny lumps which grow inside the throat, which can cause trouble when swallowing, or occasionally breathing. If this occurs, get immediate medical help.
The cure for this metabolism problem is usually hormones, but some nodules may need surgical removal.
