10 Steps to Festival Make up ...

The Festivals are here again! I love V Fest, and this year I’ve got loads of friends going to the Radio One Festival too. Whether its Muse or Lilly Allen, there’s something for everyone, and dancing in the sun is great fun! One thing is for sure, there will be hundreds of cameras, so you have to look good. Here are my 10 steps to festival make up…

1 Cleansing and Toning Wipes

Cleansing and Toning Wipes Price: $12 at sephora.com
Keeping up your usual make up regime will be hard in a field, so instead, invest in some wipes to keep up your good work. These pomegranate wipes are brilliant, they’ll remove traces of make up as well as tightening pores, eliminating impurities, and protecting skin against antioxidants. Simply use them when you go to sleep, and your skin will continue looking great!

Frequently asked questions

2 Concealer

Concealer Price: $42 at sephora.com
The law of festivals says you’ll get a horrible spot on the worst possible day, so go prepared. I love this concealer, which comes in so many different shades that there will definitely be one that’ll suit you perfectly. It blends seamlessly in, and covers all blemishes and marks, looking and feeling completely natural. It’s perfect!

3 Bronzing Powder

Bronzing Powder Price: $32 at sephora.com
Nobody wants to be the pale one in the photographs, so give your skin some colour and definition with a bronzing powder. NARS is the best, fusing together different shades of colour with a slight shimmer which gives the illusion of healthy, naturally browned, glowing skin.

4 Eye Shadow

Eye Shadow Price: $34 at sephora.com
The key to festival make up is to avoid bright colours, and look like a natural beauty. So, its time to invest in some seriously good nude make up! My favourite? This divine Kat Von D True Romance palette, which contains all the colours you’ll need, mixed with a little shimmer. Use the lightest colours in the daytime, and add some smoky magic for a night time look. I swear by this palette!

5 Waterproof Mascara

Waterproof Mascara Price: $24 at sephora.com
Waterproof mascara is a must have for festivals, and this year there is a resounding favourite! Blinc Kiss Me mascara is amazing, and one of the best mascaras I’ve ever used. Rather then painting your eyelashes, Blinc ‘tubes’ them with mascara, which creates colour, volume and length without looking fake, and with no risk of it smudging. And when you wash it off? You can look at all the tiny tubes in your hand. Amazing.

6 Lip Gloss

Lip Gloss Price: $18 at sephora.com
Natural make up calls for a good gloss during the day, which will last without needing to be constantly reapplied. I recently discovered this gorgeous Buxom gloss, which comes in a few amazing shades. The Amber colour is soft enough to look natural while giving lips a flawless finish, Dominique is perfect for adding some sparkle, and Cherry is the most gorgeous red gloss I’ve ever seen. They are perfect for applying in a flash between acts!

7 Eye Liner

Eye Liner Price: $8 at sephora.com
Next on the list is eyeliner. Once the daytime acts are over and you are making your way to the private parties and VIP areas, you’ll need a bit more oomph. These liners are perfect for applying it! Liquid liner is much too fiddly for festivals, but I found these were perfect for applying in a hurry, and still looked fantastic. Simply apply as normal, leaving your natural eyeshadow behind it, for a flawless finish.

8 Foundation

Foundation Price: $40 at sephora.com
Using foundation everyday isn’t good for the skin, and most people don’t need too, but by the end of the festival your skin might be looking a little tired. Take a mini bottle of foundation to pep it up if you need too, and you won’t look washed out in the photos. I love this Sephora exclusive, which looks invisible and doesn’t clog pores, but will cover imperfections and give you a healthy glow.

9 Fragrance

Fragrance Price: $57 at sephora.com
No one is going to smell pretty after a few days in a field, but there’s no reason to smell bad, either. Avoid overpowering smells, which will just make you look as if you have BO, and instead use a good antiperspirant followed by a light and Summery scent. I love Daisy in the Air by Marc Jacobs, which has a fruity, Summery smell which never fails to make me smile.

10 Hair

Hair Price: $18 at sephora.com
Don’t forget your hair while you are having fun. Take a hairbrush and remember to brush regularly so your hair doesn’t get matted, and use a dry shampoo such as this one to keep hair looking and feeling healthy. This one is great for everyone, as its suitable for sensitive skin, and gives hair health, volume and style. Problem solved!

Festival make up is always a puzzle to work out, but with this make up bag, you’re sure to be looking your best right until the last minute. When you can run home and have that amazing post-festival shower! Have you got a festival make up tip? I’d love to hear it!
