These New Barbies Are Changing Beauty Standards ...

Have you seen the new line of Barbies that are being released? According to Mental Floss, they come in curvy, petite, and tall! That means Barbie is no longer a stick-thin girl with unobtainable proportions.
Now, she come in all different shapes and sizes. This new set of dolls even has twenty-two different eye colors and seven different skin tones. It's a way to make every little girl out there feel beautiful.
The days of playing with unrealistic Barbies are over, thanks to Mattel. Hopefully, this means that the future generation will be more comfortable in their skin.

Do you think that this is a great idea?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

I am fine with it but agree with Taylor: Barbie isn't supposed to be realistic or taken seriously; if she was, she wouldn't be living in a pink dream house in Malibu.

It's nice that the new barbies bodies are more realistic but Barbie is supposed to be a tall, blue eyed, sexy and blonde doll.

Great idea. I love the diversity and the thought of having several dolls with different heights, skin and hair. More outfits to try, and helps girls to learn that one size doesn't fit all!

Bravo to Mattel

I grew up playing with barbules. I never cared about how she looks or wanting to look like that. I think it's up to parents to teach their children to be comfortable in their own skin and accept who they are. We should not let a doll decide for us; whether or not we are good looking etc ...

*by the way, I would like to add that the way girls feel about themselves should start in the home. Our parents should be our biggest role models and supporters.

Yeah I think it's a great idea

Now all the parents have to buy separate clothes for all the dolls. I grew up on barbie, other dolls weren't Made yet, but she never made me unhappy with my body the constant assumption from men's ideas in the media made that happen.

I'm both for and against them. On one side, I can see that it's a great idea, because of the untealistic look a lot of people have on beauty now. But on the other side, I think it's a way for patents/adults too pass their own unsecurities and untealistic body/beauty ideals on to their/the children. Then I was that age, playing with the "perfect" dolls, I never thought about the issue, I was just playing and having fun. Now I have to explain to my own daugther, how many people don't like themselves, and that the different new barbies, are a way to show everyone that their beautiful, and I think it's a shame, that children that young are being faced with our generations unsecurities and issues about looks.

I think this is a great idea, real beauty always wins.
