# Why Kate Bush’s 'Running Up That Hill' Still Rules the Mashup World

Good morning! I was thrilled when my pal [DJ Paul V.](https://www.thesmashmix.com/) sent over a brilliant mashup recently featuring one of my favorite songs ever: **Kate Bush**'s "Running Up That Hill." This iconic track has seen a massive resurgence lately, and it's been covered beautifully by **Placebo** (I shared their video recently) and now expertly mashed up with a touch of Kate herself alongside the **Pet Shop Boys**! I could listen to this track on repeat—I think you’re going to love it.

## The Magic Behind the Mashup

From the desk of DJ Paul V. (host of Neon Noise on The Independent FM): "Lord knows I love '80s music. Two of my favorite artists from that era are **Pet Shop Boys** and **Kate Bush** There’s been a bit of a Kate Bush renaissance lately, with both **Purple Crush** and **Placebo** delivering fresh versions of 'Running Up That Hill.'"

In this version, **DJ Magnet** sweetens the pot by mixing Placebo’s cover with Kate’s original vocals and the Pet Shop Boys' "Love Comes Quickly." The result is a moody, almost gothic sound that is absolutely perfect for a hot summer night. You can catch more of these vibes at [Bootie LA](https://bootiemashup.com/) or during Paul's residencies at Akbar.

### Track Highlights and Why It Works

This mashup stands out because it respects the source material while creating something entirely new. Here is why this blend is so effective:

- **Emotional Depth:** The combination of Placebo's raw vocals and Kate's ethereal background layers creates a unique atmosphere.
- **Seamless Production:** DJ Magnet's integration of the Pet Shop Boys' synth-pop elements adds a modern (yet nostalgic) pulse.
- **Timeless Appeal:** "Running Up That Hill" continues to resonate with new generations, as seen in its frequent use in pop culture.
