1

Moisturize

You’ve probably heard this a gazillion times, but it’s just that important. Using a good moisturizer and keeping your skin hydrated is probably one of the most important beauty tips for dry skin. There is no beauty product in the world that will allow you to enhance your natural beauty if you’re applying on dry, flaky skin. Moisturize your face prior to applying makeup and consider using a hydrating primer on top, to create a smooth canvas for your foundation.

2

Use Products Made for Dry Skin

This is probably another no-brainer dry skin beauty tip but it’s worth repeating. Make sure all of your skincare and beauty products are made especially for dry skin, otherwise you run the risk of the product accentuating dry areas. This means using creamy or liquid foundations, blushes and even eye shadows and eye liners to keep makeup looking fresh and foxy.

3

Steer Clear of Long-Wearing Formulas

You want your makeup to last all day so it would make sense to choose long-wearing beauty products, right? Not so when it comes to dry skin. Most long-wearing or long-lasting formulas tend to be drying, so if you already have dry skin and use a product that has a tendency to dry out skin, it can be a recipe for disaster! Instead, try using primers or layering products for longer lasting results.

4

Exfoliate

Next to keeping your skin moisturized, gentle exfoliation is also key to keeping skin looking smooth and ensuring your makeup goes on even. Exfoliating weekly or biweekly, depending on your skin, will help get rid of flakes and help makeup glide on your skin when you apply it. Look for a chemical or enzyme exfoliator which utilizes fruit enzymes or alpha hydroxy acids to get rid of dead skin cells instead of harsh nut or fruit fragments. Exfoliation also helps make sure that your skin care products will really sink in and not just sit on top of your skin.

5

Avoid Irritants

Avoiding ingredients that irritate your skin sounds easy enough, but sometimes we aren’t aware of all the irritants that are in our beauty products. There are the obvious offenders like sulfates and soap, but menthol, alcohol, peppermint and eucalyptus are also known to irritate dry skin. Make sure you read over labels before you invest in new beauty products.

Famous Quotes

Men in general judge more from appearances than from reality. All men have eyes, but few have the gift of penetration.

Tapped out

Did you know that when you’re applying foundation, concealer, blush and lipstick on dry skin, the best method is to tap it on? Using a tapping motion to apply these products will help “melt” the product on and prevent it from settling in to any lines or creases, especially when it comes to the lips.

7

Mix It up

A clever beauty tip to create a healthy glow is to apply a pearlescent highlighter underneath your foundation. Makeup artist Sara Glick recommends applying a highlighter to the high points of your cheeks, across your forehead and on the bridge of your nose to create a hydrated radiance to your complexion.

8

Reduce Dehydrating Drinks

Drinking water is vital to good health, but skincare expert Paula Begoun squashes the long standing myth that drinking more water will prevent dry skin. She reasons that if drinking more water resulted in hydrated skin, no one would have dry skin. While drinking water is important, don’t forget the importance of reducing your intake of dehydrating drinks such as caffeinated drinks and alcohol.

9

Finish with Powder

The last dry skin beauty tip I have for you is to remember to top off all of your makeup with a hydrating finishing powder. Lightly dust your face with a powder to keep your foundation, blush and eye shadow locked in place. You can also use opt to use a hydrating makeup setting spray such as Urban Decay’s Chill Makeup Setting Spray which hydrates your skin and also features cool temperature control technology to prevent makeup meltdown.

I hope you give some of these dry skin beauty tips a go. Remember the importance of regular moisturizing and exfoliating to keep your skin in tip top shape. Do you have any beauty tips for dry skin that you swear by? Any product recommendations? We’d love to hear ‘em!
