1

Clean up

In order to have a healthier work life, one of the most important things to do is to be healthy, right? In order stay healthy, we need to keep our workstations clean and germ-free. Cleaning your keyboard, mouse and phone isn't just for those who have a penchant for cleaning or have a germ obsession. Doing this can help prevent sickness and infection, but it also helps make your workstation more efficient.

2

Be Greedy

A good healthy work habit to get into to is to avoid sharing things with co-workers. I know, you might have a group of close friends at work or whatever, but sharing items like cups, bowls, eating utensils or even makeup is asking for trouble! Be greedy with your personal items and just have a few spare items on hand so you can share.

3

Eat

Sometimes, eating lunch feels like a luxury that we just can’t afford. But the truth of the matter is that it’s something that we can’t afford to skip! Skipping lunch can cause drops and spikes in our blood sugar, altering our metabolism, and we can run the risk of not adequately nourishing our bodies. Take the time to take a lunch away from your desk and fuel up on something delicious and healthy!

4

Walk

Another easy way to stay healthy at work is to walk more. Park farther away, take the stairs, talk to people in person rather than call or email and move around! Staying in a stationary position for long periods of time isn’t good for us, so get your blood flowing and move around as much as possible. If you’re able to, try to switch between sitting and standing while working.

5

Stretch

In addition to taking time to walk around, a good way to refresh yourself after hours of sitting in front of the computer is to stretch. Fitday.com says that it’s a great idea to stretch after a period of inactivity because it helps release toxins from muscles, improve blood flow, improve your posture and range of motion and it provides your muscles with elasticity. So aside from feeling great, stretching can really do a body good!

Stock up

An easy way to stay healthy at work is to keep healthy snacks handy so you’re not tempted by any candy machines, sugary sodas or any homemade treats that someone might happen to bring by. While it’s perfectly okay to indulge on occasion, keeping healthy snacks nearby will help you make wiser choices and resist temptation when you’re surrounded by nutrient deficient food.

7

Drink Water

If you’re not already in the healthy work habit of staying hydrated throughout the day, there’s no time like the present! Symptoms of dehydration can disguise themselves as fatigue, a headache, dry skin or even hunger. Keep yourself hydrated by keeping a large water bottle at your desk and keeping a reminder to drink up every hour.

8

Take Breaks

We are all given breaks for a reason, so take them! Ten or fifteen minutes might not seem like very much time to do anything but it’s a nice respite for your eyes, hands and back. Even if you feel fine, close your eyes, stretch, get a cup of tea or get some fresh air. Taking breaks doesn’t mean you’re lazy; it’s a smart way to give your brain and body a break from the grind!

9

Leave Work at Work

The last healthy work habit that I highly suggest you take on is to leave work at work. I know, it’s so much easier said than done. I’m totally guilty of thinking about and working on work-related things away from the office, but it’s not very healthy! Take more time to relax and enjoy fun things during the week and weekend so you’re not obsessed with work 24/7. Make plans with friends or start a new hobby to make sure you get a well-deserved break!

I hope these suggestions give you some ideas on how to stay healthy at work! Living a healthy lifestyle means making changes in all areas of your life. Take little steps every day to improve your lifestyle and you’ll definitely see positive changes! Do you have any tips on leading a healthy work life?
