As we approach the 79th Annual Academy Awards, I thought it may be a fun idea to take a step back in time for a glance at what some of Hollywood's silver screen beauties looked like when they picked up their gold statuettes. As Gemma kindly informed me, this was back in the day when starlets often had to borrow their gowns from their prospective film studios. Hard to imagine in today's fashion-focused celebrity climate. From the first Academy Awards ceremony held in 1929, which made eligible all films made between 1927 and 1928, the Oscars have become synonymous with glitz and glamour, bringing together some of the most talented and well-respected individuals of all time.
