Finding Peace of Mind in 2021 ...

Peace of mind is hard to find these days. But as we approach the end of one year and start a new one, it’s a good time to put things in perspective and look forward to better days ahead. What’s more, it’s an opportunity to find that peace of mind you’ve been missing out on over the past nine months.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at five ways to achieve peace of mind in 2021.

1 Get Tested for Coronavirus

Worrying about whether or not you’re infected with COVID-19 is no way to start the new year. If you or a loved one show signs or symptoms consistent with coronavirus infection, seek testing right away. Another option is to take a rapid antibody test, which lets you know if you’ve been infected with coronavirus in the past but didn’t show symptoms. Finding out you have the antibodies means you don’t have to worry about getting sick in the future, which is tremendous peace of mind going into 2021.

2 Get Organized

Whether you realize it or not, a cluttered and disorganized environment makes it difficult to relax and unwind. If you want to find peace of mind, you need to get your home and workspace organized. There are countless online resources for getting started, including tips and advice on staying organized going forward. One useful piece of advice is to dedicate 15 minutes of every day to declutter your living area and workspace. It’s a simple way to achieve peace of mind on your terms.

3 Get into Yoga

Did you ever notice how yogis always look so calm and relaxed? That’s because yoga is excellent for improving mental focus and physical discipline. In doing so, it lays the groundwork for lasting peace of mind. It doesn’t have to be yoga - it could be pilates, meditative activities, or even something more action-oriented like biking or running - as long as it’s physically oriented and requires mindfulness to perform.

4 Get into Writing

Can you write? If you’ve ever sent an email or text message, then the answer is yes. Consider writing in a journal at the end of every day or jotting down thoughts in a stream-of-consciousness flow of language. Maybe creative writing is more your thing? Sit down and write a poem or short story. Don’t worry about the quality - at least not yet - the goal is to have a place to channel your thoughts and feelings. If you find yourself enjoying the writing process, consider enrolling in classes to get better at it. By becoming a better writer, you’ll be able to more accurately and skillfully convert thoughts into language, which will have a profound impact on your peace of mind.

5 Get a New Hobby

Do you have a hobby? Playing video games, scrolling through social media, and watching sports doesn’t count. Whether it’s birdwatching, gardening, painting, or other, a constructive and fulfilling hobby will help focus your energy and satisfy your want of fun and adventure. These benefits contribute to greater peace of mind.

2020 hasn’t been the year for peace of mind. Here’s to hoping 2021 is different. However, that won’t happen on its own. We need to do our part to find peace of mind ourselves.
