# Beyond the Bag: How Our Beauty Obsession Led to the Ultimate Glow\-Up

There is something about a shared beauty obsession that cements a friendship like nothing else. My partner, who many of you know from _Bag Snob_, and I first met in New York City during our college years. It was a summer that would change both our lives and our makeup routines forever.

## The Fifth Avenue Intervention

I still remember standing on Fifth Avenue in the glaring August sun when I first noticed her makeup. It looked less like skin and more like a mask. Without a second thought, I dragged her into the nearest cosmetic counter at [Bergdorf Goodman](https://www.bergdorfgoodman.com/) and asked the sales associate for help. "Can you help her please? She looks like she's wearing a mask!" I blurted out. The associate’s response was legendary: "I hope she's either your sister or your best friend because those are the only people you should take that kind of abuse from."

We’ve stood by each other through every beauty triumph and disaster.
