9 Movies That Make Me Laugh ...

By Aprille

I was really hard to narrow down my list of favorite funny movies, but here are 9 movies that make me laugh. I’m sure there are plenty more that you might find funnier and it’s so hard to recall every hilarious movie I’ve ever seen. I hope you enjoy the list! Feel free to mention a few of your favorites in the comment section too.

9 Ghostbusters

There are so many excellent aspects of this movie that make me smile; the Stay Puff marshmallow man, Slimer, and the Ectomobile, just to name a few. Not to mention the fantastic crew of actors in this classic film. I grew up watching Dan Akroyd on SNL and I’ve always been a big fan of Bill Murray. I remember seeing this movie in the theater and loving it. I was excited when Ghostbusters 2 came out, but didn’t like it nearly as much as the first one.

8 Caddyshack

I’m not much on sports movies, but I wouldn’t consider this to be much of a sports movie. There is a lot of golfing going on, but it isn’t done in a very serious manner. I think that is why I liked it, not to mention the antics between Bill Murray and the gopher going on throughout the entire flick were hilarious. This is one of the first movies I remember seeing a motorized animal stealing the show.

7 Goonies

When this movie came out, I was about the same age as the kids in it. I think that’s the main reason I liked it, not to mention the idea of locating lost treasure of pirates. I’m sure a lot of adults enjoyed this movie because it made them remember their child hood and how imaginative they were back then. My kids seem to enjoy this movie as much as I did. We always get a good laugh out of quoting the parts we find funny.

6 Austin Powers: the Spy Who Shagged Me

I first saw Mike Myers on SNL and then he made his way into the movies. Various characters he played on television weren’t extremely outlandish, but then came Austin Powers. My boys own every movie in the Austin Powers series. The first one is still my favorite out of all of them. I never get tired of watching it. I think it’s great that Mike Myers can play so many characters within a movie and each one is very different from the next.

5 Blades of Glory

Will Ferrell is one of my all-time favorite actors. I’ve watched every movie he’s been in and I am always watching for new ones to come out to the theater. Ferrell and Jon Heder made an excellent skating duo. They both are very comical on their own and I thought they were even funnier together. I hope they end up making other movies together as well.

4 Bridget Jones’ Diary

Some people might think of this movie as a Chick Flick, but I think anyone would get a kick out of it. My husband even liked it, after he finally gave into my pleas to watch it with me. He got a good chuckle out of quite a few parts. I’m a sucker for British comedies as it is and Renée Zellweger did an excellent job portraying a British woman. I think she was very believable.

3 Elf

This is a Christmas favorite, but sometimes I watch it when I’m feeling blue and I don’t care what time of year it is. Will Ferrell is hilarious as a 6 foot 4 inch elf. I’m sure quite a few of his lines were improvised, seeing as he was always good at that on SNL. The movie Elf is an all around feel good movie that I could easily watch multiple times in the same day. It is definitely my second-favorite Christmas movie.

2 Grumpy Old Men

Having lived up north for many years, I can recall the days of ice fishing and shoveling snow. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau have been in multiple movies together and are always such a perfect match. They play off of one another beautifully! I think Grumpy Old Men is my favorite movie they have been in together, probably because of where it was filmed. I enjoyed the many years I spent shoveling snow and dodging being buried by the passing snow plow when walking along the back roads to exercise the dogs.

1 Christmas Vacation

Out of all the movies I own, Christmas Vacation is one that I could easily put in the DVD player and have on repeat all day long. I know this silly movie by heart. I even have a relative that resembles Cousin Eddie, in both mannerisms and physical features. I remember my family all commenting on this aspect of the movie when it first came out. It’s almost like having an actor in the family! Chevy Chase always makes me laugh, but the combination of Christmas, Cousin Eddie, and Chevy all in one movie makes this the best movie of all times.

I love to laugh, so most of the movies I own are comedies. They would probably be all comedies, but I do have a husband and two teenaged boys who enjoy their action flicks filled with shooting and car chases. The 9 movies that make me laugh that I mentioned above are always at the top of the DVD stack next to the television. What are your favorite movies when you need a mood boost?
