Red lipstick has always been a hit, but it’s done wrong so much that it can be too scary to try. Done right, though, it can look gorgeous, and be the extra finishing touch to complete your look for that[first date](https://allwomenstalk.com/12-ways-to-look-hot-on-a-first-date/)or for a fun night partying it up with the girls or for a quiet dinner with your sweetheart . Here is my fast and easy guide to getting it right! ## 1. Not only will this get rid of[bad breath](https://allwomenstalk.com/top-13-bad-breath-treatments/) but will also help keep your teeth sparkling white. If you need to, use a whitener. It's just not a pretty sight to see red lipstick with unattractive teeth. ## 2. Experiment with different shades and see what suits you best. Also, different occasions and places require different shades. A bright red may just not be appropriate as [work makeup](https://allwomenstalk.com/12-top-makeup-tips-for-work/). ## 3. Try not to go over the edge, or to use too much! If you find it hard to apply, use a cotton bud lightly dipped in. This will help [soothe chapped lips](https://allwomenstalk.com/5-quick-steps-to-soothe-chapped-lips/) and also help the lipstick stick on better. ## 4. Don’t worry too much about the outside, as we’ll deal with that next, just try to give an even coverage. ## 5. The Trick! _ Photo Credit: photophilde_ Use a clean cotton bud to remove the Vaseline and any lipstick that has gone of the edges of your lips. This will give you a more professional finish, and leaves your lips looking luscious! ## 6. This is important, but most people skip it! Make sure you gently dab your lips, rather than wiping them. Ofcourse this step should be followed for [all lipsticks](https://allwomenstalk.com/best-lipstick-top-10/)! ## 7. Try to use your finger to apply it, or have [a lipgloss](https://allwomenstalk.com/13-best-lip-glosses/) specially for red lips, because the lip colour might stain the applicator otherwise. ## 8. Keep Your Face Neutral! _ Photo Credit: danny sahne_ Let your lips do the talking, and keep the rest of your make up to a minimum. [Smoky eyes](https://allwomenstalk.com/top-10-smoky-eyes-on-celebrities/) are a big no no! You’ll look much better that way, and look instantly classy. Red lips are the perfect way to finish so many outfits, so don’t be scared to try it out! It’ll take less than five minutes when you are used to applying it, and worn right, it is a classy and professional look.
