If you do the math, you will see that I was 18 years old. In my own personal opinion, if you have your priorities straight, then marrying young is perfectly fine. It’s almost been 7 years since I have got married and we are still going strong. In fact, 2 children have developed from that love. One is 5 (Ariela) and the other is 4 (Ian). I do not regret anything. These 8 pros and cons on getting married at a young age is to help you make your decision. In order to make a decision, you have to look at things both ways – hence the pros and cons. Let’s get started now:

Of course, younger people are just starting out, so the financial well-being may not be so good. With that in mind, you probably won’t have a big wedding.

I lost my virginity to my husband and he lost his to me. I am not ashamed to admit this and I know he has the same thoughts. He does not have to wonder how many people I have slept with in the past.

When getting married at a young age, you will be able to plan your future together. You will not jump into a relationship with your future already in the process. This way, you won’t have to worry about dating someone who is across the state, etc. Play your cards right and things will go smoothly.

If you decide to have children, then they are going to be older when your friends start having children. I think of this as a good thing. You are younger and can take all of that energy they have.

You see, I am all for younger marriages, but I do know that the divorce statistics are high. If you believe that you have what it takes and in your heart, soul and mind, you believe he or she is the right one, then maybe you should get married. I am sure many of you anti-young marriage people will post some “rude” opinions on here, but you have to understand that everyone has their own opinions. So, which are you for? Do you believe in young marriage?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

my parents got married as soon as my mom got out of college at age 21 (dad was just 23), while my uncle got married when he was 45 and he and his wife are expecting a baby shortly before his 50th birthday. both couples are equally loving, which shows that love is all that counts (i know, i'm sappy today). wonderful post melanie!

Yeah, the college and financial factors really put a damper on the idea of getting married young. My boyfriend and I want to get married, but we can barely afford to support ourselves. Still, I love him and feel extremely lucky to have him this early in my life.

I wouldn't recommend getting married young as a rule, but you show that it can work very well for some people. Depends on the individuals, doesn't it! It's lovely to hear that you're so happy.
