If there’s one thing I enjoy, it’s wandering round a flea market. Whether they’re big or small, regular or one-offs in someone’s house, I always have a great time rummaging around and seeing what I come up with. Here in the city they’re held on a monthly basis, and although I don’t find something to buy every time, I’ve got some great pieces in[my wardrobe](https://allwomenstalk.com/7-wardrobe-essentials/). Here are some reasons why I love flea markets. ## 1. You just never know what you’re going to come across. Maybe it’ll be something you never thought you’d want but that appeals to you, something you just love, or [the perfect gift](https://allwomenstalk.com/14-best-gifts-for-men/). Whatever, the nature of flea markets is that the goods on offer are totally random, and as they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. ## 2. Often people just want to get rid of their excess clothes, for example, and make a bit of money from them, so they sell them at a fraction of their retail price. I’ve picked up some [great dresses](https://allwomenstalk.com/fabulous-party-dresses-top-7-picks/) in perfect condition for €5 ($8), for example. ## 3. Unusual _ Photo Credit: KWG73_ Another interesting factor about flea markets is that you find all sorts of strange objects. It’s sometimes difficult to even work out what they’re for! If you’re involved in theatre, you might find the perfect costume or props among[the weird](https://allwomenstalk.com/10-weird-celebrity-baby-names/) and wonderful objects on display. ## 4. The same seller won’t have the same stock two weeks running. There are also different sellers[every week](https://allwomenstalk.com/5-fun-recipes-to-try-this-week/), so it’s a great option if you don’t like the ‘sameness’ o[f most stores](https://allwomenstalk.com/7-amazing-online-vintage-stores/). ## 5. It’s fun to wander around, examine the goods, try things on, and [laugh about](https://allwomenstalk.com/7-dresses-to-laugh-at/)what you find. When one of my friends visits, she always wants to visit the largest flea market in town rather than follow the tourist trail! ## 6. Sometimes I wonder about[the history](https://allwomenstalk.com/230-british-vogue-covers-history-of-fashion-in-pictures/) of the goods on sale – who read that book? Who wore that hat? How many walls has that painting hung on? Everything has its story … ## 7. You won’t see the same item in someone else’s house, or have that embarrassing experience where you pass a stranger in the street wearing the same top[or pants](https://allwomenstalk.com/10-most-fashionable-pants/)and have to pretend that you didn’t notice. ## 8. It may involve a lot of fruitless visits, but as every dedicated flea addict knows, you have to keep looking before you find what you’re after.
