Be a Good Listener

Listening to directions tends to make an assignment or major class project a lot easier to complete. Being a good listener is also the best way to obtain the necessary information for daily work and to gather pertinent details for later use in class or on the job. You never know when something heard in class will benefit you later on. It could be something you thought insignificant at the time.

Eat Breakfast

It’s much harder to concentrate when your stomach is growling at you. A lack of food also makes you weak and more likely to injure yourself, due to a lack of coordination. You’ll be able to focus more on what is being taught in class, thus increasing your knowledge of the subject. The more you are able to comprehend in class, the easier the exams and assignments tend to be.

5

Get Enough Sleep

A lack of sleep causes the body to act in a similar fashion that a lack of food does. Coordination, thought processes, and basic focusing abilities are all less than par when you don’t get enough sleep. Make sure to have at least 6 to 8 hours. Some people require more and others less, but 6 to 8 hours is the average for most people.

Go to Tutoring

Teachers and professors are generally more than willing to help you grasp a concept that will enable you to have an easier time in class. Most educators offer tutoring before or after class and some even have weekend study groups, depending on the size of school you are attending. Tutoring for college level courses is often held by students who completed the class a semester or two before you, so they know exactly what to expect and how to explain concepts in a way you can understand them better.

3

Keep up with Daily Work

High school classes are often graded mostly on daily assignments. Missing a few of these can cause a drastic drop in your GPA. College courses usually grade students mostly on exams, but sometimes daily assignments are suggested for practice. Doing these assignments allows you to see if you actually do understand what is being taught in class, plus you’ll have a chance to chat with the teacher or professor on anything you can’t comprehend.

Study Often

Studying for tests will help you to absorb the information better and most people receive higher scores on exams when they study. It’s also easier to study a little bit at a time, rather than cram for a test the night before. You can only retain so much information during each study session. Having study groups can be helpful for people who aren’t exactly sure what to study for a particular exam or for those who do better when they explain something to another person, instead of simply reading information over and over again.

Take Great Notes

Note taking is an ability that some people are very good at. If you aren’t a great note taker, then it might be helpful to talk to a friend who is. Make a copy of this friend’s class notes to study or get together and compare notes. It’s hard to know what to write down when a teacher or professor simply lectures and doesn’t write anything down on the board. Many teachers will let you know when something is of great importance and will be on a test later on.

Whether you’re in high school or college, these 7 tips on keeping a high GPA should prove to be useful. You’d be surprised at how many businesses look at GPA scores of job applicants. Having a high GPA tends to show that you have initiative and this is just one of the many positive qualities universities and business owners like to see. Do you have any other tips on ways to maintain a high GPA?
