7 Things I Wish I Had Time for ...

I’m probably busier now that I work for myself, and now that I’m a full-time college student, and a mother, than I’ve ever been in my life. It’s a good busy, though, and my days are numbered by the rewards of a life I love. But there are a lot of things I miss about having spare time… and a lot of things I wish I had time for.

1 Sleep

I can’t even remember the last time I got more than four hours of sleep in a row, and it’s starting to take its toll. My mother, both of my brothers, and daughter also suffer from insomnia, but I think my lack of sleep is more about time than a physical or psychological ailment.

Frequently asked questions

2 Reading

I used to read for pleasure all the time, but now it seems the only reading I do is for school. The only time I actually have for reading is at breakfast with my bowl of cereal, and how much time is that? I’m lucky if I get ten minutes of reading with my two bowls of mini wheats.

3 Cooking

Like all other working mothers, I wish I had more time to cook. The slow cooker is my best friend, but even it gets less use than I’d like. I do cook at home at least five nights a week, but I wish I could cook more.

4 Photography

I love taking photos, and I have a fantastic DSLR and lenses and flash… but I never get to take photos. I either forget my camera, or life just seems to get away from me. I wish I had more time to take pictures of the world around me…

5 Travel

I rarely take vacations, and when I do, I usually go to visit my family, who live in Washington State. While that’s a nice vacation, and I enjoy seeing them, I really wish I had the time to travel. You know, around the world. The Middle East, Africa, Thailand… everywhere!

6 Classes

I hate that I only have time to take three or four classes per semester. At this rate, I feel like I’m never going to finish my degree! But I’d rather take fewer classes and do really well than take more classes and not have time to devote to doing well in each one.

7 Writing

I’m a writer by trade, which means I almost never have time for writing for pleasure. My memoir? I’ll never get it done! My novel? Gathering virtual dust in my hard drive somewhere. Those letters I want to write? Email works almost as well…

Those are most of the things I wish I had more time to do, and to be honest, some of them are on my list of New Year’s resolutions. Are you a busy bee? What down-time activities do you miss? Please let me know! I’ll commiserate with you if you commiserate with me!
