7 Facts about Pit Bulls ...

There are so many myths about pit bulls, such as they have lockjaws. This is certainly not true! I have been working on a site that is full of pit bull myths: pitbulllove.yolasite.com. Do you see the main picture posted? That is my dog, Copper, and he is very sweet. Their jaws do not lock, they have the same jaws of any other dog. I understand that by writing this blog post, I am probably opening myself up to some rude remarks, but that is fine. Everyone is titled to their own opinion. However, what I have here is not opinion, this is 7 FACTS about pit bulls and we cannot argue with things that have been proven…

One Pit Bull, named Popsicle (he got this name, because he was found in a freezer) has the biggest record for a single drug find in the history of Texas. Popsicle found over three thousand pounds of cocaine in Texas. There are many other Pit Bulls that are worth reading about.

They are not referred to being the “nanny dog” for no reason! Sure, you may argue with this one and try to point out all of those Pit Bull attacks, but the only reason little dogs have not been reported in the news is because they’re not big dogs, so the bites do not hurt. I have owned many big dogs, but have only been bitten by the smaller dogs that I like to call ankle biters. Of course, as with any dog, you should not leave the child alone, and children should be taught to treat animals with respect.

As a breed, they are not human aggressive. In fact, they are the opposite. They love humans and most of them are very gentle. Any dog out there can have behavior problems, not just the pit bull.

Don’t Forget about Sgt Stubby!

Sgt Stubby was a Pit Bull war hero! He was wounded twice while he was in action. Did you know that he saved an entire platoon? He did this by warning everyone about a poison gas attack. Single handedly, he even captured a German spy! NOW, that is a Pit Bull for you! They are heroes!

I understand that some cruel humans out there are raising Pit Bulls as fighters. If you see this type of action, you need to report it and do not let it continue. If we start watching out for the humans who give them bad names, then maybe people can see that they truly are good dogs. There are so many good deeds Pit Bulls have done that have not been reported in the media, because, well, the news only seems to report the bad things. Sometimes, because of this, I think the whole human race is bad, but I do not say ban the entire human race. Remember: Punish the Deed, Not the Breed! Do I have to ask for you to voice your opinion? If you’re a hater, you’re probably so outraged over these facts and already voicing your opinion. However, for those Pit Bull lovers out there, please do voice your opinion and stand up for this breed!

all dogs are awesome. all breeds are cool. dogs give SO much love. my dad has a pit bull and he is just about the friendliest dog ever

I worked for a Vet for 2 years, and the Pit Bulls were some of my favorites. They had the best manners, they are huge people pleasers. Unfortunately, so many people take advantage of their nature and teach them to do bad things. I do not have as much love for the little dogs, on the other hand lol. I can't COUNT how many times I got bit by Chows, Malteses, Chihuahuas, Rat Terriers, and Doxins. It's like they were out to get me! Really, though. Any dog has the potential to be good or bad. It's all in how we train them. Some little dogs don't even have to be trained to be bad... lack of good training simply leaves them with bad behavior and pent up aggression.

I've had 2 pits growing up, and both were very gentle souls. I miss them both very much. That being said, we had a Black lab when I was a baby and it attacked me and ripped my scalp open and nearly tore my ear off. So it isn't the breed its the human who raises the dog. My father was a jerk to the lab. After my mum and dad divorced, she got the first pit, we had Bailey for 14 years and Cali for 12 neither one ever got mean or vicious. In fact Cali would run when you shook out a garbage bag before putting it in the can.

Good job and thank you for speaking out for this breed. I have a pit bull who was rescued from a CA shelter on her last day. She is the sweetest, goofiest dog and a great running partner. My neighbors love her. She has been bitten in the face by a yellow lab, nipped at by your typical off leash ankle biters, and never so much as growled at a single one of them. I was told that she was a favorite at the shelter she was rescued from and it makes me sad to think what would have happened if she had not been saved. Thank you for sharing the good qualities of Pit Bulls.

<3 pittys :)

I had a pit for 12 years and she was a great dog. So I adopted another one that was 12 weeks at the time and now over a year old she is the BEST dog I have every had. She is great with my kids (5 and 1 year), if fact I always joke that she is my 5 year old's dog because she listen to him better than anyone and she sleeps with him almost every night. I wish people would realize it is the person not the dog.
