15 Celebrities Who Lost and/or Gained Weight for a Role ...

Being an actor may fill your head with thoughts of expensive things, multi-million dollar mansions, jet-setting to exotic places, and rubbing elbows with famous people but acting is HARD WORK. How hard? Well, this list is proof. If you want to be an actor and you want to show dedication to your craft, you should not say no to weight loss or gain. Just make sure you do it right and the script is worth it.

1. Renee Zellweger

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Renee gained weight to play the adorable Bridget Jones. I actually thought she looked great with all the extra weight. Perhaps she can find a middle ground between her Bridget size and her size now?

2. Brad Pitt

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Brad had to go tight and fit to play Tyler Durden in Fight Club. Then he had to bulk up again for Troy. I have read many articles saying that a lot of men often confess they want Brad's Tyler body when they are thinking of gym or weight goals. If I were a guy, I'd want a similar body, actually.

3. Christian Bale

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Have you guys seen him in The Machinist? Jeez, he was insanely thin in that movie! He must have been scary to look at in real life.

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Oh wow, have you guys seen these new photos? He has been heard saying that he is serious about his acting career and what could be better proof than this?

5. Robert De Niro

(Your reaction) Thank you!

To play Jake La Motta in Raging Bull, Robert gained more than 50 lbs of muscle. But he also seemed to have gained a lot of fat to play an older and less fit version of the boxer. Now THAT is dedication.

6. Tom Hanks

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Tom had to lose half of a petite girl's weight to play the man trapped in an island. I think he looked good but I like Tom in his "fatherly" weight.

7. George Clooney

(Your reaction) Thank you!

The beautiful George Clooney had to gain weight for his role in Syriana. The weight gain is probably why I did not watch this film. I kid, I kid.

8. Charlize Theron

(Your reaction) Thank you!

If you're one of the most beautiful women in the world and you are willing to go to great lengths for a role, yes, you deserve an Oscar award. Kudos to her team of trainers (if she has one) for helping her get back to her current weight.

9. Matt Damon

(Your reaction) Thank you!

When I first saw Matt in Saving Private Ryan, I thought, "Whoa, that guy is sick thin." And then he went for a lot of extra weight for a recent film role. Sure his transformations are not as drastic as Christian Bale's but I admire Matt because he doesn't care about staying traditionally beautiful all the time.

10. Edward Norton

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Lucky Edward had to gain muscle weight for his role in American History X. He looked great.

11. Jake Gyllenhaal

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Have you guys seen Prince of Persia? It is a cornucopia of Jake's muscle-y goodness. Disney should go ahead and make more Prince of Persia movies because Jake looks amazing with all the muscles.

12. Russell Crowe

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Russell gained more than 60 lbs for Body of Lies. I read he lost weight for Robin Hood but I have not seen the film.

13. Jared Leto

(Your reaction) Thank you!

For Chapter 27, Jared ballooned up. He returned to his beautiful and age-defying appearance in two months. This guy is blessed by the gods, in my opinion.

14. Colin Farrell

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Colin had to lose weight to play a war photographer in the movie Triage. He looked kind of hot. Kind of.

15. Eric Bana

(Your reaction) Thank you!

He did not work out for a month and ate everything he wanted. This was for the movie Chopper. I have not seen it but this photo comparison makes me want to.
