1

Fish

Fish has been getting some bad press lately because some of it may contain elevated levels of mercury, but it’s still one of the best brain foods out there.

2

Spinach

All the leafy green vegetables will increase your brain power, and my very favorite is spinach! You can eat it raw in a salad, or add it cooked to dishes like quiche, pizza, and more!

3

Blueberries, Blackberries, and Raspberries

These sweet little berries are loaded with antioxidants, which will protect your brain cells from nasty free radicals. And they’re delicious!

4

Whole-grains

Whole grains are loaded with just the right carbs to give your brain a boost. Try a bowl of yummy whole-grain cereal, some delicious pasta, or even a sandwich on whole-grain bread. -

5

Apples

You already know an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but the skin of red apples also contains nutrients that are sure to boost your brain power. Crunchy and yummy!

6

Grapes

Red, black, and purple grapes also contain brain-boosting nutrients. Pick the ripest, juiciest grapes, wash them, then pop a baggie of them into the freezer for a couple of hours for a delicious summer treat!

7

Cherries and Cherry Tomatoes

These two fruits don’t seem related, but they are! Both provide lots of vitamins that will increase your brain power and even your memory.

8

Oranges or Orange Juice

These citrusy delights are another great way to boost your brain power! They also contain vitamin C, which can help prevent colds.

9

Water

Good old water! Adults are supposed to get 64 ounces a day. Be sure to drink every ounce, because one side effect of dehydration is a slow-down in brain activity! Yikes!

10

Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli, and Artichokes

I love love LOVE artichokes, although I’m not so fond of broccoli and Brussels sprouts. But all three contain the same good-for-your-brain nutrients as the leafy green veggies.

11

Apricots

These little fuzzy guys are only in season for a few weeks, but dried apricots are a very tasty alternative! I like dried apricots because they seem more like junk food than good-for-you food!

12

Cocao

Chocolate? Really? Chocolate is good for increasing brain power? Yes, it is! Most commercial chocolate only contains a little actual cocao, so check the label before you buy it. And since chocolate can also be fattening, keep consumption to a minimum.

Wow, this list has all of my favorite foods! I get to eat cherries, chocolate, and raspberries! What do you eat to increase your brain power? What’s your favorite snack to give your memory a boost? Let me know, so I can give it a try! Yum!

Hi Jennifer, I believe Almond is a great memory and brain power booster. In India it is highly recommended. Curds is also something that moms give to their kids before exams so that their mind remains calm ( don't know whether that has a scientific basis). I think you should do a round up of foods from different cultures. For example Broccoli is not readily available in India, and it is rather expensive plus it is never really fresh. Now fish is something that most vegetarians do not eat. So please add foods from all cultures. Thanks! for an informative article.
