Okay, ladies! How many of you have a secret (or not-so-secret) bad habit? You know it’s bad, either because it’s unhealthy or because it’s hurtful. I know it’s hard to break bad habits, but now is the time to make a change for the better! Bad habits make it harder to keep your job and your friends. It also makes it harder to keep your mother happy! Here are the bad habits you need to break, RIGHT NOW!
Smoking cigarettes has been directly linked to cancer, heart disease, and so many other terminal illnesses. It also costs a fortune, makes your teeth yellow, makes your clothes and hair stink, and is bad for your skin. Disgusting habit - quit now!
2. Drug Use
We all remember the public service announcement from the 1980’s that showed “your brain on drugs” with the frying egg. It’s just as true now as it was then — using drugs can KILL you. It’s also illegal, so even if you don’t end up dead, you can end up in jail.
3. Excessive Drinking
Binge drinking, or even drinking just a little every day, can cause horrible liver problems. It can also cause you to make lapses in judgment, like drinking and driving, or having unprotected sex. A little drinking is fine, and even good for you, but now is a good time to start thinking about laying off the heavy or excessive drinking.
4. Unprotected Sex
Danger danger for so many reasons! First of all, there are DEADLY sexually transmitted diseases, like HIV/AIDS. There are also STDs that may not kill you, but will be with you for the rest of your life, like herpes or HPV (which can lead to cervical cancer, which can kill you!). Another reason not to have unprotected sex? Pregnancy!
5. Binge Eating (or Not Eating)
Not all of us were meant to be a size 4. It’s just not possible, and for some women, not healthy! Starving yourself can lead to several other illnesses, like anemia, and it can kill you! It also causes unnatural hair growth, and that’s disgusting on its own! Binge eating due to a broken heart or stress-relief counts in here too!
6. Yo-yo Dieting
You diet, you lose weight, you gain it back, you diet again, you lose weight, you gain it back. This is bad news for your heart and for your soul. Be happy with who you are! Like I said in point 5, not every woman was meant to be a size 4! Concentrate on being healthy and fit, rather than tiny.
7. Being a Couch Potato
This is one of the leading causes of heart disease, which is the number one killer of both men and women in the U.S., followed by cancer. Turn off the TV, put down the remote, and jump off that couch!
Stress can cause insomnia, acne, headaches, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Learn to worry about the things you can change, and stop stressing about the things you can’t. If you do feel stress, exercise or meditate.
9. Constant Complaining
No-one wants to be around someone who is always a downer. It’s also bad for YOU! Keeping a positive attitude keeps you from being sick, like catching cold, and a smile is so much more attractive than a frown!
Don’t go to the doctor and request antibiotics for every little cold. Don’t take over-the-counter or prescription drugs unless you need them! Using antibiotics too often actually decreases their effectiveness.
This bad habit can really hurt you in the workplace. If someone is airing someone else’s dirty laundry to you, then rest assured they’re spreading gossip about YOU to other people, too. What to do when someone starts gossiping? Rather than listen, or worse, participate, just walk away.
12. Chronic Lateness
Another bad habit that can damage your rep in the workplace. Even being five minutes late all the time can really irritate and annoy your friends, family, co-workers, and your boss. Aim for being ten minutes early, rather than right on time.
I have to admit, I LOVE gossip! I also tend to over-stress… but I’m working on breaking both of those bad habits! What’s your vice? Are you going to quit? Why or why not? And if you are going to quit, how will you do it? Let me know, and I’ll promise not to gossip about it!
