With a cast consisting of musically talented stars like Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson and Alicia Keys, you’d think that the producers of “The Secret Life of Bees” would give its audience a musical treat. Actually, the movie cannot be farther from that.
“The Secret Life of Bees” star 14-year old Dakota Fanning who plays the role of Lily Owens, a girl who ran away from her abusive father. The film is based on Sue Monk Kidd’s bestselling novel published in 2002 – and Gina Prince-Bythewood of “Love & Basketball” fame is the director of the film.
Jennifer Hudson plays the role of Lily’s caretaker Rosaleen Daise – who accompanied Lily when she ran away from here father. The other stars in the movie include the always good Paul Bettany, Sophie Okonedo, Hilarie Burton and Tristan Wilds.
All in all, “The Secret Life of Bees” is a delight to watch, it has a beautifully-penned screenplay and an amazing ensemble cast. What more can you ask for from a film?
