Girls Night Out

By Shianne

Recently I posted an ad on a well-known public forum for which I will refrain from naming in the event I get verbally clobbered by those of you who tend to think less of folks who traverse such forums. Let me explain. This ad was of a different nature. The subject matter was about a common concern, but yet scarcely addressed in an open public forum fashion. It is of such delicate subject matter that in most cases best friends are not privy, and most certainly family members cannot know. This secret lives deep and dark and surfaces only when the mind has time to run amok with contemplation of the secrets’ pleasures and joys only dreamt of. I’ll give you a hint as to the subject matter and then we can move on from here: Women Seeking Women

Beauty Lies Within You

By Corazon Roxas

When I was six, I saw an airplane for the first time, I asked my nanay (mom), “ who make it fly,” she said, ”the pilot”, and I asked again “who else is with him while flying,” she said, “the co pilot and the flight stewardess” , I ask again, “is an stewardess a girl or a boy,” she said a lady. From then on I wanted to be a stewardess because I wanted to be flying on a lovely bird.

Are Women Supposed to be Thin or Curvy?

By Christie Harris

Are women supposed to be thin or curvy? This is a good question to ponder. As the years and decades pass, we have seen different shapes and trends for the female body in the celebrity world come and go. We have seen curvy shapes as in Marilyn Monroe. We have seen super thin shapes as in Twiggy Lawson, the famous English supermodel. Oh how everyone tried to have the Twiggy build during that era. In more recent times, we have seen body shapes of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Paris Hilton, Nicole Riche, Ally McBeal, Halle Berry, Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Hudson, Eva Longoria Parker, and Gabrielle Union. This list of celebrities shows that there are many different body shapes in today’s era. It is now known that more and more celebrities are straying away from the concept that super thin is the only shape that is beautiful. Women of today seem to be sending the message that whatever shape you are comfortable with as long as you are healthy is okay. Are women supposed to be thin or curvy?

A War of Women by Susan Wingate

After writing a multitude of short stories and three novels, it seems to me that women-in-conflict is a subject matter that interests me. Each of my books has two female characters central to the story’s theme and usually those two females are at odds with each other. “Bobby’s Diner,” my latest release, shows two unrelated women in conflict with a man at the center of their ire.

Careers and Women

By Joy Adalia

I know that you are now a career woman. But other women hadn’t been as lucky before!

Decades ago, the role of a woman was to be her husband’s partner in taking care of the children and of keeping the house tidy and in order. Her job is to cook breakfast early, wake the kids and help them prepare for school, help her husband get ready for work, juggle the grocery shopping while keeping the baby clean, plus doing the extra chores at home such as cleaning and washing the dishes and clothes, doing some ironing, and generally, to be at home. In the late afternoon, she waits for her husband when he comes home from work. Her husband works for money to keep their budget well provided for. Yes, the career of a woman was to be the home manager.

The Big Balance

By April Williams

Last night one if my ten year old twins told me that he noticed a new number when he was going through my cell phone. I stood there in shock and dread hit me like a cannonball in the gut. I realized that I am raising my children to think that it’s normal for a mother not to have an “opposite sex relationship” outside of being a good mother. His tone and demeanor suggested that I was in trouble for having a male name in my phone. Where is the boundary between mothering and answering to that inner woman? Why is it that some of us feel like we are bad mothers for wanting to date sometimes? I asked a few parents and the response I got was encouraging and fair. There has to be an understanding with children that they are always first and will continue to be, but mom or dad will have to have time for other adults.

Captivating

By Karen Rey

Have you ever wondered what makes a woman captivating? Is it her beauty? Her Hair? Or how she carries herself? Sometimes I can go through life, and find that everything is pretty ordinary. I wake up, eat breakfast, try to study for my upcoming board exam, rush for my tutorial work, make my way back home which is not always fun, considering how hot the days are at times and somehow the days start all over again.

Women Over 50 Rock!

By Clara Freeman
When I was a young 20 something, men approached me on the streets with “hey georgeous!” sometimes in that bold come hither leer that only men have…At thirty, the leer became less bold… more sensual in approach. It was the slight raise of the brow upon first encounter to that softly whispered “damn girl” that becomes sunshine on a rainy day because of a perfect compliment from a total stranger…
