1. Gather up your other single girlfriends for a night at the movies. Be sure to pick something that’s anti-romantic – no sappy chick flicks allowed! Be sure to get giant buckets of popcorn to share.

2. Host an Anti-Valentine’s Day party. Go with a “Love Hurts” theme and use all black decorations. No flowers, no cards, no candy… just good food, good friends, and good drinks!

3. Treat yourself to a spa day. Get a massage, a facial, or a pedicure – alone or with some girlfriends. Make yourself feel special and pampered!

4. Get out of town! Plan a special trip to some place you’ve always wanted to visit. It could be something as dramatic as a foreign cruise or as simple as a day trip- enjoy being able to just do something you and only you want to do.

February has a lot to offer us and with it being the 2nd month of the year we can kick ourselves back into that new years resolution we left behind last month. Here are 10 wonderful things to love about this month and hopefully they will create some other ideas of what you love about February.

1. The Pittsburgh Steelers Won the Super Bowl…


If you or someone you know didn’t watch NBC on Sunday February 1st, than you might not know that The Pittsburgh Steelers have beat the Arizona Cardinals 27-23 to win Super Bowl XLIII! Jennifer Hudson stepped out for her first performance since the tragic death of her family members and sung her heart out to the National Anthem. And before Hudson, Faith Hill walked onto the Tampa Bay turf to sing “America the Beautiful”. The Half Time Show made all the Jersey natives proud of their Boss Bruce Springsteen who hit every note of “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out”, “Born to Run.”, “Glory Days”, and his newest “Working on a Dream”. If the Steelers aren’t your favorite football team than who are you hoping wins next year’s Super Bowl?

2. Our Heroes are back to save us…

Monday night on February 2nd our favorite good guys Peter Petrelli, Hiro Nakamura, Ando Masahashi, Matt Parkman, Mohinder Suresh and good girls Claire Bennet, Daphne Millbrook, and Niki Sanders were back on NBC fighting to save the world. Of coarse the bad guys and girls like Nathan Petrelli, Angela Petrelli, Noah Bennet and Sylar were there to destroy it. Although the episode ended with a “to be continued…” suspense, it left us wondering how far NBC will take the good vs. evil concept. Who is your favorite Hero?

3. Groundhog Day…

 The movie starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell is a love for some of us as well. However,  I’m talking about the day Punxsutawney Phil comes out to forecast how the rest of our winter from February 2nd until March 20th will be. If Phil sees his shadow that means six more weeks of heavy winter coats and hot coffee or tea. However, if he doesn’t see his shadow he’s letting us know that it’s time to put on those cute Spring tops! This year little Phil did see his shadow, which means more snow could be on it’s way. How will that affect the rest of your winter?

4. He’s Just Not That Into You…

 

With a big cast of star actors and actresses, the February 6th release of He’s Just Not That Into You might be the most anticipated romantic comedy of the year. The cult following all started with Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo’s book of the same name. Now Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson, and Jennifer Connelly will show us just how not into them Ben Affleck, Justin Long, Kevin Connolly, and Bradley Cooper are. Do you have a guy that’s just not that into you?

5. St. Valentine’s Day…

What’s not to love about Valentine’s Day, even if you are single? This day of love can be fun for everyone married, engaged, dating, single, young, and old. And if you are married or engaged don’t forget about your single friends. Send them a nice card or take them out to the movies. For all the single gals and guys don’t think that this day is just about having a date…remember all the love that you do have in your life. For moms and dads, put together some fun crafts with the kids like a scrapbook of all the reasons why you love them with funny pictures of the family on each page. For all those couples out there just make sure your significant other knows all the reasons why you are lucky to have them in your life. St. Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about the money spent on a fancy dinner or a dozen roses. What will you be doing on February 14th? My fiance and I will be spending time with each other as well as family members for a birthday party!

The most common question asked while waiting for shows to start has got to be, “So…which has been your favourite show so far?” Now that all the chaos is over and I’ve had a chance to reflect on the week that was London Fashion Week, I must admit I have two favourites ” Aganovich and Deryck Walker (although it could well have been three as word is that Avsh Lom Gur’s collection was amazing!). Others that came close – Peter Jensen, Jaeger London, Felder Felder and Armand Basi.

Deryck Walker’s collection was strong and seductively serious – sharp shoulders, tweed knee length skirt suits and beautiful wool coats. But it was the final piece, a beautifully constructed dress made from joiner’s biscuit’ and inspired Magpies, that drew a gasp of approval. I had a chance to catch up with Deryck after the show and lucky for us ladies, he confirmed he’ll be focusing a lot more of his efforts on strengthening his womenswear.

The Aganovich, presentation was held on Valentines Day and appropriately titled The St Valentines Day Massacre. Due to a crazy schedule it had the unfortunate fate of being placed right before Vivienne Westwood which resulted in many fashion week goers foregoing Aganovich to ensure they made it in time for Vivienne Westwood. Personally I think anyone that did so missed out. It was fantastic!

The collection was inspired by the commercial aspect of Valentines. The result was a superb mix of mid length dresses complete with exquisite shoulder detailing, fitted and looser shaped skirts and luxury cashmere military style trench coats.

Well, it’s getting around to that time of year again. Red seems to be more and more visible with every passing day. Roses have started dominating florist displays and everything from balloons to candy is shaped like a heart! It’s not difficult to tell that Valentine’s Day is coming! Here are 10 ways to make this one, well, unforgettable.

  1. Cook up some romance! Give the crowded hotels and romantic hotspots a miss this year and get cozy in the kitchen. Pick an easy recipe and something your significant other will like to cook…and eat. Open up a light wine, put on your aprons and dish up the romance!
  2. If music is the food of love, then write her (or him), a song! Even a rudimentary ability with a musical instrument will suffice. Set all the mush to music. You can be sure it will be treasured and will always be a favorite.
  3. Do something you’ve never done before, singly or together. From something simple like going for a movie or play or tasting a new food or drink, to something really big like a hot air balloon or helicopter ride, gift yourselves a new experience.
  4. Dedicate this year to giving, rather than getting. Visit people who have lost a spouse recently to death or separation. Plan what you can do to make their first Valentine’s Day without their loved one, a little easier.
  5. If circumstances permit and especially if you have been toying with the idea, adopt a baby! Share the wealth of love in your home with a little one for whom the chances of being adored and spoilt, are not that great.
  6. Let out the lurking Leonardo. Get the required materials and work together on a painting. You may need a few trials
    before the finished product emerges, but it will give you a project to work on together for the next week or so. However, take care that it does not get derailed by arguments on what to paint and other arty details. When completed, give it pride of place.
  7. Travel down memory lane. This may take some planning and budgeting. But if you can, take him or her to places that hold good memories of your childhood – like the house or street you were born in and spent early childhood, your nursery school etc. Even if it means taking a short trip, it will do wonders for the connection between you.
  8. Buy him or her, the most expensive gift you can afford. Something they’ve wanted a long time but would never buy because of the cost. After all the grumbling about spending too much money, they will be thrilled to bits!
  9. Start over again. Spend the entire day acting like a guy and girl who’ve met for the first time. Take off your wedding bands and head off in different directions. ‘See’ each other in a library, a restaurant, etc and pull off a successful come on. Take it from there and do all the silly and obvious things that young people who’ve just met and are interested in each other do.
  10. Do nothing. Indulge in a day of complete laziness. Do not cook, go out or even talk much…lingering looks and smiles say a lot. Just order in, snooze, wander hand in hand through the house, read comics in bed, listen to music (but no TV) and eat and sleep some more!

I’ll bet you can’t wait for February 14th now. Well, neither can I. So start planning and much love and laughter to you and yours!
