You can’t move at the moment for people raving about the eeePC from Asus. “Oooh, it’s so small”, “oooh, it’s so smart” “oooh, it’s so cheap”… It’s the darling of the cash-strapped gadget lover. Where as in the UK it ships with an optional 3G module, for connection to the internet wherever you are, that’s no good if you’re in the US.

I know some peeps sport jazz shoes and can pull them off. More power to them. But for the rest of us, that is a tricky task. As always with fashion, you should only wear what you’re comfortable in. Me? I’ll stick to ballet shoes. You?

A gold metallic leather gym bag? Come on. This Hogan Sacca Piccola Sport Tote may be high-fashion and luxe, but it’s bewildering for designers to believe that women really want to spend a grand on a fancy-schmancy gym bag that we’re going to stuff with smelly sneakers and deodorant. Who are they designing for – Donatella Versace? It reeks of pretension, and to make matters worse, this Hogan tote isn’t even that stylish. The gold metallic leather may look glam, but the large logo cheapens it, and I’m not entirely sold on the porthole-sized cut-outs that link to the canvas straps. Plus, the long, rectangular shape is so “gym bag” that it would look out of place if you used the bag for other outings.

It always amuses me when large companies like Nike come up with ‘green’ ideas to ingratiate themselves with the public. They have a lot of work to do before we accept them as an ethical company, but I guess their initiative to recycle sports shoes is a step in the right direction.

Reuse-a-Shoe is a type of heaven for your sweaty old trainers, where their life is continued (after they are brutally ground down) in the form of sports and play surfaces. Nike began the scheme back in 1993 and it has been gathering momentum worldwide ever since. Now you can deposit your old sport shoes in several UK locations. Nike see it as part of their lifelong commitment to reducing waste, and also as a way to encourage more activity in kids by producing good quality sport surfaces where they can play. Handing out free trainers to kids would also be a good way to get them moving, but maybe I’m just being cynical?
