Most of us weren’t even born yet when this film was first shown on the big screen – so thank goodness for DVD’s and cable reruns. The West Side Story is a melodramatic musical retelling of a love story ala-Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.
In this movie adaptation of the hit HBO series “Sex and the City”, Sarah Jessica Parker and the rest of the cast all reprise their roles to relive the characters that we’ve loved over the years. The story realistically picks up a few years later after the series ended, so Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, Charlotte – and even Mr. Big have all ‘matured’. Will Mr. Big and Carrie live happily ever after? Does Samantha ever leave the single life? You all know the answers as well as I do.
I know, I’ve probably watched this film a dozen times already – but I still get this warm and fuzzy feeling when seeing Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage on screen together. And the uber-sentimental OST’s not bad, either. It’s a story about Seth, an angel who wanders LA then finds Maggie – and the ubiquitous ‘meeting’ changed his life forever.
Drew Barrymore hardly ever plays in period films – but she fits the role perfectly despite her bubbly personality. In “Ever After”, the winsome actress plays the feisty Danielle who falls in love with Prince Henry, played by Dougray Scott – in a modern, funny and touching twist to the tale of Cinderella.
Ziyi Zhang and Suzuka Ohgo are excellent in this touching and interesting movie where we learn a lot about a totally different culture. The movie is touching, trustworthy and sometimes very sad. You would regret missing this.
This sweeping period piece stars Rufus Sewell who plays Lord Mark, while the title roles are taken by James Franco and Sophia Myles. Watch what happens in this sweeping tale of forbidden love, epic battles and political intrigue.
This tale about love, life and death follows Holly Kennedy played by Hilary Swank – who was left alone, literally, by her Irish hubby Gerry, played by Gerard Butler. Will she ever get out of the funk that she’s in as a cause of Gerry’s death? How did a dead guy actually manage to ’send’ his wife love letter with the signature P.S. I Love You as an ending? (Side note: Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays another Irishman who’s bound to be Holly’s future love interest – and he’s literally worth drooling over!)
One of the best Adam Sandler movies that I’ve ever seen, “The Wedding Singer” follows the love story between Robbie Hart and Julia played by Drew Barrymore. Robbie’s fiance’ left him at the altar and he’s – what else? – a wedding singer who happens to meet bubbly Julia at a wedding event where he breaks down. Check out the funny, touching, musical ending in this 80’s themed romantic comedy – you’ll even see Billy Idol in a cameo.
Debra Messing doesn’t want to go to her sisters wedding alone so she hire Dermot Mulroney to go with her as her boyfriend. It’s not as easy as it might sound though since there are feelings involved as well.
See Meryl Streep and Robert deNiro falling in love in this wonderful movie. It’s a beautiful story but full of complications which makes the film full of life from the beginning to the last minute. This movie will be on the top list for yet another decade, I’m sure of it.
