Cameron Diaz sure is mixing up the handbags lately. Her latest arm candy is this woven natural straw Gucci Positano purse with white leather trim and a very summer-appropriate bamboo handle. To be honest, I’ve never been a huge fan of this Gucci offering, but I have to say that the natural look suits Cameron’s light and breezy outfit well and is a good choice for this season. By looking at Cam you can tell the bamboo handle is a bit awkward to carry, but we all make sacrifices for fashion.

Oh, ugh…cough…wheeze…ack…WAY too much going on! This Juicy Couture velor ‘Daydreamer’ tote bag is reminiscent of the far sexier Gucci ‘Positano’ medium top handle bag (you MUST see this to properly compare the two!) but manages to do everything wrong! That scarf is too big and messily threaded, that tag is ridiculous, the Juicy logo print is obnoxiously loud, the tote’s shape seems thoughtless and boxy…and all this can be yours from US$195 from Neiman Marcus.

Eh? Wha? I thought I was in love with the ‘Positano’ in white, with the flashy red scarf, but I’m a sucker for black. This dark ‘Positano,’ in precisely opposite colors, catches my fancy in a way totally different from the white Gucci. The black is sleek and sexy, and maybe thats why Saks wants to charge US$100 more than the white for it, for a grand total of US$1,930. Yum… By the way, does anyone know what the interior looks like and would like to share their thoughts?

Usually I look at bags with scarf ties rather critically, and I wonder if the thing would look better if I threaded my own favorite scarves through. This scarf is rather beautiful, though, with that pretty Gucci print and the white piping. I can’t think of a more appropriate scarf. And, of course, this Gucci Positano Medium Top Handle (US$1,835) also satisfies my current obsession with white handbags. Pictured on the right is brown ostrich leather version, which costs a wooping $6,995 (see also the carpetbag version, featured here previously.) But…even after seeing such a luxurious alternatives, I still like the white Positano better. I can’t help it, I’m severely biased towards white handbags right now.

Simple, stylish, and cute – the Gucci Positano Medium Top Handle tote in natural straw is a fresh, preppy version of the label’s oft-repeated Positano design. The bag evokes beach getaways and clam bakes – very Lily Pulitzer and J. Crew. I love the green leather trim around the top and reen floral print scarf that ties in front. The straps are nicely done as well, a nice balance of chain links and green leather. A great tote for the summer.

While the brown ostrich leather and burgundy print scarf pairing of this Gucci Positano Medium Top Handle may seem incongruent, but I think it actually works well. The square-shaped, roomy and open tote is classic and sophisticated, and the scarf tie adds a bit of well-traveled European flair. This would be a great bag to take on a weekend jaunt.

When I posted about a similar Gucci Scarf “Positano” Tote, I was told by a commenter that another was much more expensive. The first was straw, the second—crocodile. The price of the crocodile tote? $19,800.

Nearly $20,000! Actually it’s nearly $21,000 with tax!!!

It’s lovely, but I don’t need it. I do, however, need a new car. A nice hybrid would be an option with that amount of money. Oi.
