Despite their political differences, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have kept their marriage going strong for 22 years. Shriver’s mother was John F. Kennedy’s sister and though she was reluctant to follow the family’s political history, Shriver found herself in love with a man who would become Governor of California.

Schwarzenegger found his way from Austria to the United States in the late 1960s and a few years later he won his first Mr. Olympia.

While the body-builder was busy with a documentary called, “Pumping Iron“, his future wife Shriver was graduating from Georgetown University as she began her journey into the world of news as a producer for KYW in Philadelphia.

Shriver was just 21 years old when she first met Schwarzenegger in 1977. He, was 30 years old and trying to make a name for himself in Hollywood.

They were at a celebrity tennis tournament that was held in honor of her late uncle, Robert Kennedy, when they laid eyes on each other. They married nine years later in front of a crowd that included Barbara Walters and Oprah Winfrey.

Although they have seen many ups and downs, Shriver and Schwarzenegger have brought love, devotion, and four children to their marriage.

I’m not perfect,” Schwarzenegger admitted to Newsweek , “but I know that out of millions of women, I found the one who understands me and my drive.”

As the big election draws near celebrities are becoming more vocal in their endorsements for their selected candidate. Celebrities are showing up at local rallies, singing at fund raisers, and hosting their own support parties in their homes and in their hometowns.

But how much do these endorsements matter to those outside of Hollywood, and what effect does their opinion have on the candidates? A local Philadelphia man feels that if a celebrity is educated about politics then he might give a minute to listen,

Someone like Chuck Norris who has been involved in politics would be a more credible source to use his celebrity status for a candidate versus a young celebrity who might use their status to gain popularity.”

In October of 2007 Forbes.com posted their results from a political poll they took when they paired up with E-Poll Market Research. They asked a group made up of 2,213 men and women which celebrities would be a better endorser for a candidate as a list of names were read to them. Among the names that were more favorable were:

Oprah Winfrey

Tom Hanks

George Clooney

Jon Stewart

Angelina Jolie

Tiger Woods

According to E-Poll Market Research, the young voters were those among the group who seemed more impressed by celebrity endorsements. Oprah was given a 26% positive mark from the younger voters while the older voters of 45 and older gave her an 11% positive mark. On the other side of the results were the less favorable celebrities whose names included:

Rosie O’ Donnell

Tom Cruise

Madonna

Jane Fonda

Donald Trump

Susan Sarandon

There seems to be a direct correlation between more controversial celebrities given a negative outlook versus a benign celebrity who has a positive outlook among voters. Although Rosie O’ Donnell was given the highest negative mark of 46% from voters 65 and older, she only received a 27% negative mark from voters 18 to 34 years old.

According to mylifetime.com based on the Forbes poll Barack Obama has favorable and unfavorable celebrity endorsements. As it is very well known, Oprah Winfrey is an Obama supporter and has shown up at local rallies for him. Although Brad Pitt has shown his Obama stickers, it is still unknown as to whom Angelina Jolie is voting for.

However, George Clooney and Tom Hanks have voiced their vote for Obama as well. During her tour Madonna posted pictures of Obama next to pictures of Gandhi and also had pictures of McCain posted next to Hitler. Jane Fonda and Susan Sarandon have also stated their vote for Obama.

On “Larry King Live” Donald Trump announced that he is among the John McCain endorsers.

He’s a smart guy and I think he’s going to be a great president,” Trump said.

Mylifetime.com also stated a few other celebrities who are endorsing McCain, but none of them were among the names listed on the Forbes.com poll. However, there are some big celebrity names among them:

Arnold Schwarzenegger

Patricia Heaton

James Woods

Jon Voight

Robert Duvall

Clint Eastwood

Elisabeth Hasselbeck

So whether your vote is persuaded by celebrities or not, the polls show that celebrities are certainly a powerful part of the political process.

By Rebecca Gibbs

Every morning I wonder to myself, “Hmm, what should I write about today.” Since I start my day off with reading the Bible, I end up longing to write about what I read. Whether it’s the stories I read, or verses that stood out to me, to talking about doctrines in several Christian denominations. After my reading, I turn to my cup of coffee, (which I usually forget to drink while reading) take a few sips and then head to the kitchen to make breakfast.

As I make breakfast I begin thinking about health. Once I get rolling on that, I end up wanting to write all about health as well as research it further! So many people today neglect their health which in return gives us people who are overweight, people fighting sicknesses, and cancer. Though not all is linked back to the food we eat too much or not enough of, it is still mostly linked to the lifestyle we choose to live.

Once breakfast is made, my husband comes rolling out of bed to eat his share. This of course makes me want to write about marriage. My husband is a gift from God and it saddens me when spouses mistreat each other. Most of it is because of miscommunication. Though my husband and I are not perfect, we have still learned a lot in the short time that we’ve been married. I want so much to share with others that you can work through hardships and keep a marriage strong. We’ve hit some very rough spots that most marriages would have ended because of, yet we have been pushing through and are still more in love with each other then when we first wed.

By this time I’m off in a writers world thinking along as we eat our breakfast when suddenly I hear a “click.” The sound of my husband turning the TV on. It’s time for our morning news. My husband likes to keep posted on what’s happening with our country, but it just makes my mind scream. Just when I thought my mind was full of enough stuff to write about, we have to through in politics and the morals of our country and this world. Will I ever run out of things to write about?

Next it’s time for my husband to take me to my job, where of course I will only think of more things to write about because I work with customers and coworkers for 6 hours a day, but before that even happens, I take a walk through my veggie and flower gardens to check on everything. Are their veggies that need to be picked? Pumpkins to puree? Any new flowers blooming today? Once I get going on gardening I begin wanting to write about it as well. It’s only 7am and I’ve already thought of so many subjects to write about?

By the time I get home from work to sit down and write, I can’t figure which subject to write about or to at least start with. What can I do about it? After pondering this for a long time, I finally came to the conclusion that I must write about life. All those subjects are a part of life. From religion to health to politics and everything else. It all ties together into every day life. An office worker, gardener and mechanic can relate to each other because they, in a way, kind of do the same thing. All deal with “dirt” whether its crazy coworkers, soil, or grease on an engine, they have to learn to work together with someone or something…. and they all go home to personal problems, large or small, they all deal with how the government is run, whether they see it directly effecting them or not, and they all need to take steps to a healthier lifestyle.

No matter where we are at in life, we must always look for ways to improve whether it’s mental, physical or spiritual health.

That’s what I have figured out so now I’ve decided to be a writer of life.

It seems like mom of supertwins Knox and Vivienne has yet to decide on the presidential candidate that she’ll endorse.

According to Ms. Jolie herself:

I am waiting to see the commitments they will make on issues like international justice, refugees and how to address the needs of children in crisis around the world.

Hmmm… so it’s not enough that you’re living with the sexiest man in the world, you have a brood of super famous kids and your genetic-winning twins just commanded millions of dollars for their first pictures? Naturally, the world awaits with baited breath as to which presidential candidate you will choose. Doesn’t it suck to be Angelina Jolie? 

FYI: Her dad Jon Voight implied that he’ll endorse a candidate who will not make a slave out of the white race (hint: not McCain).

I wonder if the ‘dutiful’ daughter will go with her dad or contradict his choice just out of sheer contrariness?

Any thoughts?

I was very much a “dude” growing up, so the thought of spending more than $10 for a haircut seemed ridiculous. What could a salon do that my barber couldn’t? By the time I got old enough to realize that I didn’t have to get the exact same cut over, and over, and over again, I was too broke to afford a hair salon, so cut it myself.

Now, finally, I’m at the point where I can appreciate what a well-trained stylist can do to tame my crazy coiffure — for $60 or less.

John Edwards, on the other hand — even though he has the most normal haircut on the planet — finds it necessary to spend over $400 for a celebrity stylist to give him that “official look.” What makes it even funnier, is that the presidential hopeful not only employed the services of Joseph Torrenueva, of Beverly Hills, but he paid for those services out of his campaign fund — as if it was a legitimate business expense.

To be fair, part of the high cost is due to the fact that Torrenueva comes to whatever location is convenient for Edwards rather than have the politician make an appearance in the salon.

On the other hand, it’s four hundred.dollars. I’m sure this guy is an amazing stylist — and hey, if you’ve got it, spend it — but doesn’t this seem a little over the top for your basic suburban dad cut?

PS: for a funny video of John Edwards combing his hair to excess, go here.
FOX News’ designated flamethrower, Bill O’Reilly, slammed Rosie on “The O’Reilly Factor” last night, calling her “nutty” and “irresponsible,” and suggesting that [...]

Controversial Fox News talk show host Bill O’Reilly is asking ABC to fire Rosie O’Donnell after Rosie’s latest tirade against the U.S. Military and her comments about the recently captured British soldiers by Iran.

FOX News’ designated flamethrower, Bill O’Reilly, slammed Rosie on “The O’Reilly Factor” last night, calling her “nutty” and “irresponsible,” and suggesting that ABC should fire O’Donnell for her provocative remarks about Iran and the war in Iraq.

Rosie, who was not a guest on O’Reilly’s show, has been anything but gentle in expressing her feelings toward U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, going so far as to suggest on her blog that the recent kidnapping of British sailors was designed by the U.S. and Britain to help escalate hostilities against Iran. On “The View” this week, Rosie also challenged viewers to Google “Gulf of Tonkin,” a reference to the controversial naval attacks in Southeast Asia that led to the U.S.’s increased involvement in the Vietnam conflict.

Now, O’Reilly is calling for ABC to be “held accountable” for Rosie’s remarks, especially after the network axed Bill Maher post-9/11 for suggesting that the terrorists who attacked the World Trade Center were “courageous.” ABC, for its part, had no comment this morning.

Be sure to vote for Rosie in Bumpshack’s Celebrity March Madness Final Four. Rosie is currently in the Final Four going toe-to-toe with Michael Jackson to see who will advance to compete against Britney Spears in the finals for the title of Hollywood’s Maddest Celebrity.

A photo from Tony Blair’s youth is making the rounds in England and making noise for Blair’s disappearing hand. The photo is from the mid 70’s at the height of Blair’s youth. In the original photo Blair can be seen making an obscene gesture. He also appears to be quite drunk.

After the original version was unveiled on Newsnight last night, it was reported that the picture had never been seen in its full glory because it had always been cropped to avoid embarrassing Mr Blair.

In fact, it turns out his hand signal was removed by computer manipulation on the insistence of the clergyman who supplied the photograph and with the agreement of the news agency which distributed it to newspapers.

The picture first surfaced in 1994. Labour leader John Smith had just died and papers were casting around to work out who would succeed him.

Father Nicholas told Newsnight: “I suppose the BBC lawyers would be a bit worried if I was to suggest he was drunk in that photo. On the other hand, it’s probably more defamatory to say he was sober.”

He described Mr Blair as a student who was “averagely naughty, without being wicked”. He added: “It was all fairly innocent. Tony always knew how to keep his nose clean.”

I find this to be pretty funny. Tony looks like a confused Mick Jagger in the photo. Blair is not very popular in England at the moment and something like this might actually turn the British on to him again, at least with the university crowd.
Now if someone would just morph this photo of Blair with one of Bush flipping the camera off. That would truly be funny.

Al Gore and his entourage breached security at the Nashville Airport on Wednesday. An American Airlines employee used her key card to allow Gore and his party past the metal detectors and security.

“There are no exceptions. Everyone must go through security,” airport spokesperson Lynn Lowrance said.

“He made his way to security, waiting for him to come through the check area, then he saw him pop up past security in a sterile area,” Lowrance said.

“Everyone who comes through this public airport terminal must be screened, so it’s a breach of rules. It’s serious,” Lowrance said.

Gore’s spokesperson says that Al didn’t ask for the special treatment and the airport police believe it was just an employee being ‘globally warm’ and friendly with the former V.P.

Airport police think this may have been a case of the employee simply being too accommodating. Her name was not released. She was cited for a breach of rules, and will be required to retake an airport security class.

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research has issued a press release Monday morning detailing the excessive energy that Al Gore uses at his Tennessee mansion.

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

According to their website the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions

Ugly Betty’s America Ferrera showed once again that Hollywood celebrities should shut up when it comes to politics. She had this comment that I assume was a jab at President Bush, yet is seems to make little since.

Here is what she had to say in her exchange with Zach Braff at the ‘Spirit Awards’:

In the scripted exchange, Braff asked: “So do you think that you have any traits in common with the country that is your namesake?” Ferrera replied: “I guess I’m a free-spirited person and America’s supposedly the ‘land of the free,’ right?” She then added, to loud applause from the left coast film industry audience: “Or at least we will be in 2008.”

Free in 2008? She is trying to reference when President Bush leaves office, but he actually leaves in January of 2009. I also don’t get the reference to not being free at the moment? I sure live a free life in a free country. Perhaps if I was in Iraq, Iran or North Korea I would feel different, but we can all do more than we need to in the USA. Just ask Antonella Barba or Britney Spears about their lack of freedom. Maybe America should change her name to Darfur Ferrera, North Korea Ferrera or something along those lines.
