4. Memoirs of a Geisha

This is one of my favorite books. The writing is beautiful and the setting is absolutely magical. I may just read this again before this month ends.

Much like the Karl Lagerfeld book, this one is another beautiful addition to your collection of pretty coffee table books. Now if only I can find a copy in my city.

The Blind Side tells the true story of Michael Oher, a homeless African- American teenager who is taken in by Leigh Anne Tuohy (played by Bullock) and her family. As the story progresses, Oher faces new challenges and hardships that he overcomes with the help of the generous and giving Leigh Anne to become an All-American offensive left tackle. All in all it is an inspiring, feel good tale of love and human victory. Ironically, Sandra also won the Golden Rasberry for the Worst Actress for her perfromance in All About Steve. Who cares as long as you take home an Oscar with it!

First things first, I had to figure out how safe (or not!) the usage of electric current on the delicate surface of facial skin is. Turns out, galvanic current has been used in spas worldwide for over 50 years. And just in case you were wondering, it is pain-free. Phew!

I can’t stress how important smiling is especially in the morning. How you start your day is pretty important. Help your children start their day out cheerfully, every day. When you wake them up for school, do it in a singing voice along with a smile upon your face. Sure, you may be irritated and stressed out about work, but don’t show it.

8. Be thoughtful.

When you were a child, were your parents thoughtful? Did they show you how much you meant to them? Irrespective of whether they did or no, do this for your children. Try packing their lunch with a love note or a treat they love eating. Drop something off at the school office for them. Bake their favorite cookies or brownies just because… Surprises are always good gestures to show your child how much you care about them.

My Comment: 14.5 x 15 x 15; 140W; 43 lbs. The casters on this heavy, but highly effective, filter make it easy to move about the room. It sort of reminded me of a robot from some Sci-Fi movie, with the large dial on the front and noticeable screens all around the bottom and sides. While I didn’t find this purifier to be as aesthetically pleasing as some of the other models on this list, it does exceed filtration standards and it is a bit lighter than other purifiers of its quality. You’ve got to make the tough decision between ruining your home decor or your lungs though.

My Comment: 28 x 16 x 15; 215W; 29 lbs. This is the perfect air purifier for allergy sufferers and also for dorm room use. It takes care of not only dust and pollen that come into the room, but also any pet dander. This does cover 1,000 square feet and it is capable of six different speeds, which many home air purifiers don’t quite offer. I really liked that not only is there a user manual with this air purifier, but there is also a user guide provided on DVD and VHS. The warranty for this machine, however just covers the machine. The filters aren’t covered.

1. Bank wisely

Now that you’ve decide to start saving, my first bit of advice to help ensure your success is to open a dedicated savings account at a bank you don’t already use. Many banks offer an incentive to open a new account, too, like matching your initial deposit, or just giving you $50 outright. Bonus! Also, decline the offer of a debit card, so that if you want to take money out, you’ll have to actually visit a branch… which will make it a lot more difficult to take money out, which would defeat the whole purpose, right? Here’s another way to save money by banking a little differently. When you make a purchase, round up to the nearest dollar when you deduct it from your bank-book. For instance, if you spend $22.68 at the gas station, round that up to either $23.00 or even $25 in your bank-book. It will make the math easier, and you’ll also be saving those little pennies, nickels, and dimes with each transaction!

By now, most of us have cell phones and cable internet connections at home. Why, then, do some of us still pay upwards of $40 or more every month for a land-line telephone service? Unless you need your landline for something in particular, like TIVO or some home security systems, you can discontinue and disconnect your service. Not only will you be saving that money every month, you’ll also be free of those annoying telemarketers at dinner-time!

10. Research makes perfect.

When you spend so much time researching on finding the perfect pet or the perfect diamond ring, why not do the same for your loan? I can’t even begin to tell you how important it is to conduct research. Research until you have gained knowledge on everything you need. Once you have a clear understanding on exactly what you are doing, then you can move forward and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

9. Consider private lenders.

When you are looking for a FHA loan, you will need to find a private lender and fill out the application for the same. FHA will make sure the lender gets the loan and if you default, the loan has been insured. Generally, these loans have high interest rates attached to them and they do involve a bit of paperwork. It makes sense to go this way if your loan amount exceeds ten thousand dollars.

8. Banks are skittish when it comes to approving home improvement loans.

This is especially true if they do not have the initial home loan. It is not completely unheard of that bank loans will normally require you to have a second mortgage or a personal guarantee. If you have a good credit score, then the credit rating will get you a good interest rate for loans that are under twenty thousand dollars. Today, you may find that home improvement loans are getting more difficult to get from just any bank.

10. Start planning before you apply for the loan

If you’re even thinking of applying for a home loan, start planning at least 6 months before you apply for it. More time can be taken if needed but 6 months should really be the minimum. This should be enough time to clean up credit scores, at least as much as you can since some things cannot be repaired.

9. Figure out what all of your costs will be

It’s important to figure out if you will be able to purchase a home even in a cheap place, even with a loan. You’ll need to take into consideration all your income, where the down payment is going to come from, how monthly payments will be made, and what other costs will pop up. You’ll also have to think about everything that goes with a house: taxes, insurance, cable, garbage pick-up, and utilities. There’s always the everyday stuff as well; emergency car repairs (What if you end up needing a new car?!), groceries, and other necessities…even toilet paper!

8. Know what fees will be included in the loan process

There are going to be closing costs, lender fees, and possible other hidden fees for you to pay. They won’t be hidden if you find out up front what they all are. Write them down so you don’t forget to consider them while taking your decision. You are often able to negotiate some fees that the lender charges, but you won’t know unless you ask!

10. You do not have his home phone number.

You ask for his home phone number, but he does not give it to you. He will only give you his cell phone number. When his cell phone battery runs out and you want to speak with him on the home phone, he always makes up an excuse not to. He will not even call you through his home phone. He’s married, he isn’t stupid. He knows you will get a whiff of that ring and when you finally do, he does not want you calling his house. His five kids have school in the morning and his wife looks no good without proper sleep. Girl, if you do not have that landline, then he is obviously hiding something for you.

9. He buses his own dishes.

Face it, if he takes care of his own dishes, then he is obviously trained and is probably married. No, being divorced on this one does not count either. When men are divorced, they go back to their slovenly ways pretty fast. These usually get worse after being divorced.

1. Watch Romantic Movies

I don’t know a single girl who does not like romantic movies. So, why not to make it a Romantic Movie Night? All you need to do is:

• Order or download a couple of great romantic movies you haven’t seen in a while or ever
• Call up your girlfriends and ask them over

1. Home test!

Invite him over for a few nights, and check that you are compatible. He’ll start to see how much easier living with you is, and you can see any habits that might drive you mad.

Find a magazine article or programme about couples, and broach the subject with him. Talking about other people makes it easier to judge how he feels, and saves you frustration and heartache if he says he isn’t ready.
