Whit McLeod’s folding wine barrels chair

It’s nice to have furniture that’s kind to the planet, as well as being pleasing to the eye. This chair by Whit McLeod is made from recycled 70 gallon oak wine barrels. It folds down into a slight, but perfect curve, with each individual slat fitting seamlessly with the next. Each chair has the vineyard’s name branded on the underside, so you know exactly where your chairs have come from.

Lola Rose soy candle

Lola Rose, one of the UK’s leading jewellery

Now if you look at their pink and fluffy website, you might wonder why I, a man, would be perusing such a product page, but I have you know that my intentions are sound. RSPB fear proposed Planning reforms will damage wildlife

A new Planning White Paper will be presented to parliament today which could spell disaster for wildlife in England. It proposes limiting objections to major developments, which effectively means that anyone opposing schemes like the enlargement of Lydd Airport, which is threatening the RSPB reserve in Dungeness, Kent, may not receive a fair hearing before a final decision is made

Grow your own veg the easy way

Recently my partner and I have been thinking (well actually dreaming) or moving to the countryside and when we do it would be nice if we could grow our own fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately we are both very lazy when it comes to lawn sprucing and complete garden novices, so to help us out I am planning to purchase Let’s Grow Veg magazine.

Graig Farm Organics local hardwood charcoal

Barbecue season is upon us yet again, but before you grab your striped apron and tongs spare a thought for the world’s tropical forests. They are being stripped of their precious trees in order for us to cook our chicken drumsticks in the great outdoors. In the UK only a tiny 3% of charcoal bought is sustainable,

Surface spa: shield your food from chemicals

We all like to eat the healthiest, most natural foods we can, which in today’s world means organic. How many of us think about the surfaces we put the food on? How healthy are the surfaces? If you have cleaned them with a chemical based product, then you may have left chemical residues, which may end up on your healthy food, which pretty much negates the point of organic produce.

Eco-Art creative metal recycled sculptures

Artist Tim Pace creates wonderful sculptures from industrial waste, like abandoned farm vehicles and broken play park equipment. The results are both amusing and breathtaking, with his collection including giant bugs and other animals. He tries to ensure that the original salvaged items are still recognisable in the finished pieces, like this shovel headed dog,

Clean, crisp and organic — how bed-linen should be

We all spend a great deal of our lives in bed, so it makes sense for us to be surrounded by the most natural materials rather than a cocktail of chemicals. Unfortunately, cotton is one of the most heavily sprayed crops, with both insecticides and pesticides. That’s why organic really is best when it comes to sheets, pillows and duvets. The thing about organic is, it not only protects the planet, but, it is much better for us too.
