Calico Moon: Fairtrade webstore to eclipse the high street

Calico Moon is a small business set up by a family who were becoming increasingly concerned at the impact their choices had on the world. Having four children of their own, they wished to do their bit in preventing the exploitation of other peoples’. There is a personal touch about Calico Moon which is charmingly old-fashioned, and their website gives extensive information about their supply chain and workers as well as the products and prices.

Plain Fairtrade tees for men by Ralper

My partner and I were chatting with the PR manager for an ethical clothing retailer the other day and my partner pointed out that whilst ethical fashion for women has come on in leaps and bounds, men seem to have drawn the short straw. Having done a bit of research, I have to agree with him.

Eco-surfwear brand Finisterre don’t just cater for your eco-surfers, instead they produce a whole range of 100% recylable technical outdoor clothing for snowboarding, cycling and other sports. They also donate…

Joey D’s recycled clothing

Joey D is a legend in Edinburgh. His shop lies in the heart of the gay district, and from the outside it looks very unassuming, but inside it’s a venerable cornucopia of great clothing and accessories. He uses everything from pieces of army camouflage to old boiler suits…

Breakthrough Breast Cacer T-shirts by Julien McDonald, Ben de Lisi and more

There are three great things about these T-shirts. Firstly, top name designs at High Street prices, secondly, different designs in great shades of waterfall blue and silver and thirdly, a massive £20 of the £30 sale price wil be donated to the …

Turtle bag

I must say with all this talk of designer eco-bags recently, I thought I would add something too, you know how much I hate being left out. Well you would know if you knew me! I have scoured the web and found something that ticks all the boxes for a stylish eco-bag. Well, it’s sort of anti-stylish chic really, like geek chic for a bag. The fact that it isn’t stylish makes it stylish right?

Eco-friendly wooden sunglasses from iWood

It seems like it’s just going to keep on getting brighter outside, and if you’re looking stylish but unusual way to shield yourself from the sun you might want to check out iWood’s range of wooden sunglasses.

Sandbag ” already ethical t-shirts get organic stamp too

Sandbag, the pop-fashion company who made T-shirts for Radiohead and Supergrass, has now added the 100% organic mark to their garments in a new retail range. Lanched in 2006, their retail clothes were already ethically manufactured using certified fair trade cotton, but the organic step makes things better.

Billboard ‘Baby Bags’ by WAS

It took me ages to accept I actually needed a special bag to keep all the random bits and pieces you carry once you’ve had a baby, and when I did give in, it took even longer to find one that wasn’t pink or frilly. If only I’d known about WAS bags. The Kiwi company save old billboards from a grim landfill death, and turn them into funky bags, including a range especially for bambinos…

Bamford & Sons organic men’s collection

“Very nice indeed,” is what I have to say about Bamford & Sons. After opening their newest store in Sloane Square they now introduce a capsule collection of organic and ecologically sensitive clothes and accessories for Spring/Summer. Every garment is made with certified organically grown cotton and un-dyed fabrics. They also boast eco-leather jackets, which use vegetable dyes instead of chemicals, organic cotton trousers, muslin shirts and organic yarn sweaters – and so they should boast. It’s just very nice stuff and great to see simply and well designed ethical men’s fashion. Check out their equally impressive website.
