If you’re a budding Scorsese or Tarantino, but are more passionate about green issues than gang warfare, then the Friends of the Earth green film competition is for you. They are looking for a 60 second film on the subject of ‘how we look after our planet and use it like there is a tomorrow’.

Everyman cancer awareness month
I find it sad that it’s mainly women’s cancer charities and events that make headlines. As cancer affects 1 in 3 women you can see why, but did you know that in the UK one man dies every hour from prostate cancer?

Enterprise HQ – The homeworker’s dream-pad
It’s called Enterprise HQ, the UK’s first business centre exclusively designed for home-entrepreneurs. Working from home is set to be the 21st century’s business revolution and, with 11% of the population already using their home as an office base, the impact on pollution and congestion caused by commuters could be radically reduced. This new concept will provide a 1500 sq ft complex for 500 visitors per week. The landmark building, located in Shrewsbury, will include a retail gallery, state of the art wireless connected enterprise lounge, private meeting space and a 60 sq ft art wall to showcase artist’s work. ‘Tycoon’s Kitchen’ will also enable private caterers and food producers to arrange demonstrations and tastings.

Work Wise Week
I know, I know, it’s another “Week”. They must have run out of weeks by now, but not before this – coming to a calendar near you is Work Wise Week. It is being run by Work Wise UK, a non-profit organisation that strives to encourage smarter working practices. The week will include the Work Wise Annual Summit (Wednesday 16th May) and, wait for it, National Work From Home Day. Now apart from Composting Week, which I blogged on a little while ago, this has to be up there with them. Ok, it’s not a catchy title, but it could make an eco-difference. According to Work Wise 3.1 million of us already use our home as our work base. That’s 11 per cent of the total workforce. Work Wise UK believes that this can be extended to 50 per cent of the workforce within five years. Now this would make a national dent in our carbon-guzzling footprint. So come on people, tell your bosses your going nowhere, just for a day.

Is there a week that goes by when we don’t have a National Something-or-other? At least with the National Vegetarian Week you’ll probably have a tum full of delicious food.
