Like most women, I watch Fashion Week as an outsider. I wade religiously through hundreds of online photos, looking dreamily at dresses, coats and shoes I’ll never wear. Maybe catch a glimpse of a runway model on the news or wait until one the fashion magazines catches up with it several weeks after the event.

I follow it every year, even though my closet is still void of Vera Wang gowns and Christian Louboutain heels.

Stylishly dressing the Olympic team is just one of the many accomplishments of designer Ralph Lauren. With his vast experience in the fashion industry – there’s no telling where he’ll next dig his inspiration for his succeeding collections.

But for his NY Fashion Week show, Ralph Lauren has taken on a fresh look at some of his biggest hits. As Nicole Phelps of Style.com has succinctly put it:

Down came last season’s gold antlers and up went a Moroccan lamp: Ralph Lauren looked to North Africa for Spring. …Kudos to Lauren for addressing the diversity issue on the runways, and for a collection well done.

To the Maxi

As an admirer of vintage clothing, I have always enjoyed the maxi dress. It’s refreshing to find those beautiful, bold fabrics that flow to the floor amongst the endless polyester, house dresses, and “bad 80s” shoulder-padded disasters that inhabit my local thrift stores. To me, they emit that carefree summer vibe I begin to yearn for as early as November.
