Have you ever been on the perfect first date, with the most gorgeous man, and it goes so well and you go home perfectly content and then… he doesn’t call you back? I’ve spend endless nights analyzing what friends ‘did wrong’ to not get that call back, and sometimes it appears everything went so perfectly well, I have absolutely no idea what went wrong! So what can you do to ensure a second date, and more? Here are my top ten tips!

1. Let him be a man!

Men like to make the first move. Sure, some might be slow, and some don’t ever get the hint until you make your point really obvious, but he is the man, and usually the men like to be in control. There’s no harm in suggesting an idea for the date, but if you think he’d be more comfortable with his pick, go with it. Recent studies show that most failed relationships are initiated by women. I don’t know how much truth there is to that but I don’t see the harm in letting him take the lead.

2. Be interested!

Don’t wonder about what’s happening in Corrie, about what your friend is doing or about what you’ve got in the freezer. That’s one first date mistake you should totally avoid. Your mind should be completely on who you are with. Listen to him, and I mean really listen to him. If you can reuse information that he’s told you, such as names or incidents or carry on a discussion about something he mentioned instead of just nodding along, he will be impressed! Bottom line: Make him feel significant.

3. Be friendly!

You’d be surprised at how many similar stories I’ve heard from friends who’ve been on dates recently. From women who glare at any other females in the area to those who wince whenever he mentions a female name, be it his mum or sister, being possessive isn’t attractive! We’ve all had to deal with that jealous boyfriend in the past and you know how annoying it can be. So don’t put someone else throught it especially on the first date! Be friendly and open minded. It is an attractive quality to possess.

So you’ve found that cute guy, made eye contact and suddenly do your make up before you get on the train…It’s time to let him know you like him! You don’t have to risk embarrassment by telling him how you feel direct, instead here are my top ten ways to subtly show him you like him…

1. Make eye contact and smile!

Not only will smiling show that you are friendly and fun, it’ll also get him wondering what you’re smiling about! Catch his eye, count to three and look away. This will create an intimate bond between you, and he’ll soon be wondering how he can make you smile. Just be careful not to stare!  There’s a whole art of flirting with your eyes.  Practice at home in front of the mirror.  Look yourself in the eye, close your eyes and then turn your gaze away slowly moving your head to the side.  Or vice versa, looking somewhere in the distance, close your eyes and open them looking directly in the eye of the other person (or yourself, when practicing).  Do it slowly.  It’s a very sexy move, so it’ll definitely catch his attention.

When it comes to deciding where you want to go, don’t guys always take our taste into consideration? Candlelit dinners, romantic strolls in the park – all these may be woman-friendly date – but how about we turn the tables for a change?

Cosmopolitan.com has come up with a 5-step plan which involves really guy-friendly dates – to make the guy that you really like fall in love with you. Check ‘em out:

1. Treat him to a manly dish!

Have you ever noticed how the foods in most restos hardly ever make a dent on your plate? Men generally have big appetites – so treat him to a place where there are huge servings of ribs, burgers, steak or pizza. Going someplace sloppy will also allow you two to have some food foreplay, a.k.a. lustily licking his fingers!

2. Get on the green.

Yesterday morning I accidentally ran into my old friend Liza who is a furniture designer of 33 happily married to an older and bolding investment banker Cliff (sorry, but I had to change names of these two and now you will see why).

As I was saying, I met Liza yesterday walking my dog at 5 in the morning and she still had that Friday night out look with a bit smudged smoky eye hailing a taxi and kissing right in the street with a handsome stranger. That tall drink of water was not her Cliff. As a matter of fact, Cliff was supposed to be in Europe for the next 2 weeks…

As soon as I saw them I knew that the awkward moment could not be avoided – I could not just run away – she would have recognized my back and my dog Alba which would have made it even more awkward afterwards.

Later that day Liza called me and we met for lunch. After the 10 minute “catch-up” chat she decided to bring up the “morning” topic, my face blushed like I was the one partying with another man. Anyway, here is what she said (not word for word, of course, but you will grasp the idea):

After this I had that “guilt” feeling for almost 6 months, every time someone said Las Vegas I would blush. The first day I got home it felt like it was all written on my forehead, I still can’t believe we lived for 2 years after that without him knowing of what happened. Till the day we were filing for a divorce.

I cheated on my first boyfriend back in college – I was going out with another guy for about 4 months and they both had no idea of what was going on. Right before the holiday break Fiance and I finally got around to sending out our Save the Dates. We used the below design from Bella Figura as inspiration, but naturally we changed the red to kelly green and changed some of the other details like adding “invitation to follow” and the location of the wedding.

As much as I love letterpress and other nice papers I had to cut the budget somewhere after splurging on my dress and letterpress just wasn’t possible. Luckily my sister was easily able to recreate the simple design in a publishing program she uses on her computer and we printed the design on good cardstock. They came out really well and I loved the contrast of the bright green against the white.

For the invitations we are going to use the below design, also from Bella Figura as inspiration. We’ll probably change the flower motif but I love the simplicity of the rest of the design.

I’m in the midst of finalizing my save the dates – as I try to heal from a bout of appendicitis. Vistaprint has once again come to my rescue. After researching some of the more popular choices for save the date magnets (magnetstreet.com was the runner up), I determined that Vistaprint had the cheapest prices for my purposes: $67.99 for 200 or $99.99 for 500 (via a great special). What I loved most about using Vistaprint was that I had complete freedom to design the magnet; Photoshop is my new best friend.

My test version has shipped, and I am nervously awaiting that the PDF proof on my screen will resemble the actual product once it reaches my hands.
