‘American Idol’ Down to 9 Contestants

Sligh of Relief: ‘Idol’ Contestant Kicked to the Curb
Chris Sligh was the unlucky contestant on American Idol to be voted off on Wednesday night. The quick-wit Sligh had been a fan favorite early on in the show. He will be remembered for his hair, personality and quirky snap at Simon during one episode.
Chris Sligh again proved that a poor performance that comes early in the show can be fatal, even to someone who hasn’t been in danger yet. He was out of synch on “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic,” and thus became the third of the 12 original finalists eliminated.
Onstage, Sligh was Taylor Hicks without the herky-jerky dance moves and gray hair, but also seemed to lack the ability or desire to cut loose and go for broke like Hicks did. Ultimately, that left his performances too uninspiring to garner the support he needed to advance.
Phil Stacey and Haley Scarnato were the other two singers to join Sligh in the bottom three. Don’t feel sorry for Sligh though, he is very comfortable in front of the camera and with his wits and talent he will end up working somewhere in Hollywood. I can already see him commenting on VH1’s Best Week Ever.
Joke of the year Sanjaya Malakar wasn’t even in the bottom three as the campaign to vote for the worst appears to have gained heavy steam.

Will Sanjaya Actually Go Tonight?
I would bet a lot of money that Sanjaya Malakar will not be voted off of American Idol tonight. Every AI hater and unconventional person will be casting a vote for Sanjaya. I say this even after the latest Bumpshack poll that shows that 73% of respondents believe he should be voted off.
However the poll I posted is inverted in relation to the way they do the actually voting. It is a lot easier for Sanjaya to stay on when people are voting for their favorite. If America was voting for who should be kicked off the show Sanjaya would have been gone weeks ago.
Other results from the Bumpshack poll (sample size:103) have Haley Scarnato (12%) as the second most likely to go home. The rest of the votes went to Chris Sligh (6%), Phil Stacey (3%), Jordin Sparks (3%), Chris Richardson (2%), Gina Glocksen (1%), and LaKisha Jones (1%).
I believe the bottom two tonight will be Haley Scarnato and Phil Stacey or perhaps Chris Sligh.

‘American Idol’…one more must go
More of the usual this week on American Idol. The same ones shined and yet another queer hairstyle from Sanjaya Malakar. The Bumpwife immediately said that boy needs a therapist. You know I think she is right. She actually use to be in his camp, but her jaw was on the floor with Sanjaya came out to perform last night. I didn’t like Jordin Sparks performance at all but the judges loved it.
Goods: Melinda Doolittle, Gina Glocksen, LaKisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Chris Richardson
Decents: Chris Sligh, Phil Stacey
Bads: Haley Scarnato, Sanjaya Malakar, Jordin Sparks

Stephanie Edwards gets the ‘Idol’ Boot
Aspiring singer Stephanie Edwards was the lowest vote getter this week on ‘American Idol’ and will no longer be a part of the show. Edwards and Chris Richardson were the two contestants with the fewest votes. Richardson had been a favorite of the judges and pretty popular with viewers until this week.
Edwards is just 19 and comes across being very mature. She should have a successful career in music as she continues to grow as a performer and adjusts to her vocal talent. She resides in Atlanta, Georgia and auditioned in Memphis, Tennessee. Her favorite singers are Justin Timberlake and Beyonce. Her ‘American Idol’ hero is Fantasia (surprise).
I was surprised that Phil Stacey was not one of the bottom scum suckers like he had been the week before. Sanjaya Malakar, who also was nearly booted last week, performed well enough to stay. He seems to have a pretty strong fan base no matter how good or bad he sings.
The ten contestants that remain are: LaKisha Jones, Chris Richardson, Blake Lewis, Melinda Doolittle, Haley Scarnato, Sanjaya Malakar, Phil Stacey, Gina Glocksen, Jordin Sparks and Chris Sligh

Quick ‘American Idol’ Recap from British Night
I was a bit distracted trying to watch this week’s episode of American Idol. From what I was able to see I was most impressed by Sanjaya, Haley, Chris and Melinda. The bottom three vote getters this week will be Phil Stacey, Gina Glocksen and Sanjaya Malakar.
ELIMINATION DANGER: Phil Stacey
Melinda Doolittle- A – DooDoo continued to shine as she sang ‘Home’. She is my personal favorite.
LaKisha Jones- C – Everyone wishes they could sing like this girl but tonight was not that impressive to me. Simon was right on with his commentary. It doesn’t matter she will be back next week and is the favorite to win it all.
Stephanie Edwards- B- – She is always overshadowed. I don’t remember much about her performance. She needs some hair.
Haley Scarnato- A- – As Simon said not many people will be talking about her singing today and that is true. I have no clue what she sang because she was teasing the audience with that sexy figure of hers. She has dumped her good girl ‘Disney’ image.
Gina Glocksen- F – Simply the worst female performance of the night. The only thing worse than her singing was her new hairdo. It looked like my sisters Barbie doll after she chopped her hair off with scissors then dipped Barbie’s head in her Kool-Aid. She could also better enunciate her words if she would remove her tongue ring before performing.
Jordin Sparks- A+ – They need to check her birth certificate. She is in the Doolittle, Lakisha category and is going to stay there.
Blake Lewis- C – The cockiest contestant for sure. He was better than last week, but his singing leaves a lot to be desired. More likely to be a music producer.
Chris Richardson- A- – He continues to be the male favorite in my opinion. He seems to get better each week.
Sanjaya Malakar- B+ – WOW! Sanjaya came out loose and sang like a rock star. His performance blew the judges away…as far as where did that come from factor. I believe he will be back.
Phil Stacey- F – Appeared to be very flat and is the most boring contestant remaining.
Chris Sligh- B- – Nice rebound after a sucky singing performance last week. He went in the crowd and seemed a bit inspired.

Quick ‘Idol’ Recap from Diana Ross Night
I am just now catching up on American Idol from last night. The show I found to be rather blah and quite boring. The highlight of the show was Simon ripping Ryan about his sexuality and telling him to ‘come out’ of the closet. Every contestant had to sing a Diana Ross song. Ross mentored them in practice as they murdered her songs.
Here is a quick run down of how all twelve contestants did last night. LaKisha and Doolittle continued to be light years ahead of the other ten. For a more detailed breakdown check out MK’s analysis at Popbytes.
Melinda Doolittle- A+ – DooDoo continued to shine as she sang ‘Home’. She is my personal favorite.
LaKisha Jones- A – She sang ‘God Bless the Child’ which was a bit of a weird selection for her powerful voice but she did an amazing version of the song.
Stephanie Edwards- B- – Stephie has a lot of potential. She didn’t totally max it out last night but she had a very decent performance. She sang ‘Love Hangover’.
Haley Scarnato- B+ – I have been very hard on Haley and she has been horrible up until this point. But unlike Randy and Paula I agreed with Simon. She made a world of improvement and could surprise in the next round. It helped out that she had to use a song outside of her Disney play book. She sang ‘Missing You’.
Gina Glocksen- C- – The tongue ring will turn off a wide range of voters….you know what Chris Rock says about that, right? Gina was not horrible, she was not bad. I think she would be less distracting if she got rid of that red skunk tail. She sang ‘Love Child’
Jordin Sparks- A+ – Air J sang ‘If We Hold On Together’ and showed that she is at least the thirst best singer in this competition behind KiKi and DooDoo.
Blake Lewis- D – I think his future will be as a record producer. Blake’s rearrangement and version of ‘You Keep Me Hanging On’ I thought was mixed well and had a good beat. However, his vocals more than sucked and ruined the performance.
Chris Richardson- B – Timberwannabe is probably my favorite among the men. He also had the best male performance of the night singing ‘The Boss’, but that doesn’t say too much. He has charisma, talent, good looks and will land a record deal regardless of how he fares on Idol.
Sanjaya Malakar- F——— – JaJa thought it was style your hair like Diana Ross instead of sing a Ross song as well as you can. He shouldn’t be here and it is becoming very embarrassing for him. But the thought of Sundance Head singing a Diana Ross makes Malakar a bit easier to stomach. He sang ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’.
Phil Stacey- F – Goofier than an albino squirrel. He has gotten cockier and cheesier each week and that is simply a DEADLY combination. He sang ‘I’m Gonna Make You Love Me’.
Brandon Rogers- D- – His voice is not that good, albeit I would kill for it, and his dancing isn’t much better. He forgot the words and was visibily nervous. He sang the The Supremes hit ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’.
Chris Sligh- C – He lost the glasses and a bit of his magic as well. He tried to rework her song when he should have just sang it with that talented voice of his. He sang ‘Endless Love’.

‘American Idol’ Men Disappoint Once Again
South Carolinian Chris Sligh was the best of the worst Tuesday night on American Idol. The men demonstrated once again that it will be a woman that will win season six of Idol. Chris Richardson and Sligh were the leader of the male crop which isn’t saying too much. Simon, Randy and Paula were all let down by the male performances. Sanjaya Malakar and Brandon Rogers delivered two of the poorer performances of the night. Blake Lewis, who had been dominating amongst the men, had a less than stellar night. Take a look at the Bumpshack ratings of the men from last night below:
- Chris Sligh- He continues to impress more and more every week. I have no clue what the name of the song was he sang, but Sligh did a very good job with it. He is funny, corny, goofy and might just be the best male singer remaining.
- Chris Richardson- He did a good job with a Keith Urban country song. He might be the most versatile guy in the competition. He doesn’t remind me of Justin Timberlake but Richardson is making his own identity every time he takes the stage.
- Blake Lewis- He was the leading male coming into this week but he drops to the third spot in our ratings. He did his version of a 311 song in which he sounded very bland. He was able to work in some of his beat boxing and even a big of reggae. Don’t worry, he will be back next week.
- Jared Cotter- At this point the guys got really week. Jared needs to work on his stage presence. It is like he is always doing the ‘running man’ while he sings. He did a pretty good job tonight and did a Marvin Gaye song last week which gets big points with me. He needs to work on his on stage antics which can be very distracting to the listener.
- Sundance Head- I sure would love to have Sundance’s rabbit foot. It has saved him up to this point. Last week he did a really good job with ‘Mustang Sally’ but took several steps backwards tonight. He attempted a Pearl Jam song tonight and it was not very good. There is only one Eddie Vedder and Sundance showcased just how good Vedder is at singing Pearl Jam songs. Sundance is popular and he will more than likely be back next week.
- Phil Stacey- I started off high on Phil Stacey but every week my enthusiasm for him fades a good bit. He is goofy and appears a bit out of place, especially being interviewed. We also know the real reason that he shaved his head bald was because he was going bald. He has the whole ‘family man’ thing going so don’t be surprised if he is not cut.
- Brandon Rogers- It is cool that he is a trained classical pianist but that doesn’t count on Idol. I believe he is too feminine to win this competition. Doing the Cyndi Lauper song ‘Time after Time’ while wearing a pink shirt might have done it with most of main stream America. There is a reason that backup singers are backup singers. That is not a knock…I wish I had 1/10 the talent of a backup singer.
- Sanjaya Malakar- Cut this kid. He is in way over his head. He seems confused all over the place from song selection, to fashion, to hula dancing. He would probably do very good on ‘American Idol’ in 4-5 years. I will be very surprised if he survives the cuts this week.
