First things first, I had to figure out how safe (or not!) the usage of electric current on the delicate surface of facial skin is. Turns out, galvanic current has been used in spas worldwide for over 50 years. And just in case you were wondering, it is pain-free. Phew!

Also at first glance, the Nu Skin Galvanic Spa seemed a little too complex for me. What were those attachments? Those gels? Positive and negative polarities? It sort of reminded me of my horror school days. Let me reassure you though, it’s not as complicated as you think it is.

What it contains:

The Nu Skin Galvanic Spa consits of an instrument with four interchangeable conductors: the ageLOC face conductor, Spot treatment conductor for concentrated treatment to specific areas, a scalp conductor and a body conductor. Also included are two specially formulated gels with ageLOC. What exactly is ageLOc? Let’s just call it a revolutionary blend of ingredients that target the source of aging in skin and stop it, a little bit like a super-hero don’t you think? :D While the current stimulates cell rejuvenation in your face, body and scalp,the gels help eliminate toxins and impurities from your skin and minimize your pores and allow them to breathe.

The process:

Before the actual process, remember to wash your face and dry it. Also, let your hands be moist. Next comes the Pre-treatment step. Apply the gel and use your face conductor on it. During this step, the spa instrument and the the pre-treatment gel are negatively charged.The negative charges repel each other and drive the pre-treatment gel into the skin.

Next comes the treatment step. Apply the treatment gel and follow the same process. This time, the galvanic spa instrument and the treatment gel are positively charged. Again, they repel each other and drive the gel into the skin.

Wash your face when the gel dries, and look into the mirror…instant younger, healthy looking skin!

This is Kimberly-Clark’s newest home spa treatment – SpaSensials – gloves and socks that are infused with aloe, jojoba, avocado and vitamins, that moisturize your skin as you wear them. They say to wear them for 15 minutes, then remove and massage the remainder of the lotion in and get a wonderful treatment – I would say that they would be most snuggly all night on cold winter nights! The set includes two pairs of gloves and socks and also includes a 2 sided exfoliating buffer that you can use pre-treatment to get rid of that excess dry skin that always seems to accumulate on your feet (it sure does on mine anyway!). At $11.99, these would be a fantastic teacher gift, or a gift to contribute to a secret santa or “just a little something” for a friend.

Hilton’s brand of spa-quality products launches with three products, Active Sculpting Body Treatment, Toning and Lifting Bust Treatmeant (yeah!), and Firming Face and Neck Treatment. These products have been developed by a Swiss skin care company and use thermal technology that allows them to self heat and self cool according to the needs of the treatment. If you have never used these self heating/cooling types of products, they really are neat. The heat will open your pores and allow better absorbtion and the cool will close your pores and leave your skin looking more refined. Neat stuff.

These products aren’t quite as expensive as I would think they might be, since they are sporting the Hilton name and all the luxury that goes with it. Watch for them on HSN!

Alas, thats not my reality – what’s a girl to do when the summer is rapidly approaching and she has “winter feet?” Well, there are all sort of great products out there to moisturize, but nothing works better to get your feet in “summer shape” than a physical method of dry skin removal.

There are plenty of different paddles, scrapers and blades on the market that get the job done (and some get it done well), but they can take a toll on you by stabbing you – (if this has ever happened to you, you will understand), scraping your knuckles (ouch!), cutting you (!!) and just generally, if you have a big job to do like I usually do, it wears you out. Enter the Artemis Woman Heel Smoother:

This battery operated gadget is ergonomically designed to fit your hand and help you reach your heels without having to resort to contortioning (is that a word? lol). Two tips are included to start you off – one is a dome shaped tip that will do the bulk of the work, and the other one is smaller and pointed to get to any more detailed and/or sensitive areas you might need to get to. These tips are made of a very hard aluminum oxide crystal, and are porous, like a pumice stone, but much, much harder (read: longer lasting). This makes pretty short work of getting your feet ready for sandals or to go naked. My best piece of advice when using this, or any other callous remover, is to use it just after your shower or bath. Your dead skin is plumped up with water and just sitting there waiting to jump off your foot, all it needs is just a little coaxing. This does work on dry feet as well, and has enough power to get the job done, but it will be a longer job. Huh. What will they think of next? Dr. Cynthia Boxrud has manufactured a pillow to help combat “compression wrinkles” that form as you sleep on your belly with your head mashed into your pillow ($58, available here). Do you sleep like that? I admit – I do. Always. But never thought about it giving me wrinkles! This is what they say about the Anti-Wrinkle Pillow:

Tis the season once again – the 2007 Glam Beauty Awards are upon us. Vote for your favorite cosmetics, hair, face and body products for 2007.

Some of my favorites were represented (Ahava Stress Melt Butter Salt, Dashing Diva nail polish, Paul Mitchell Hair Repair – yeah!), and some were sadly overloooked (Elizabeth Arden Double Density Mascara, Bioelements Sleepwear), but regardless it is a great way to let people know what is working and what is not in the world of women’s products. And you might find something new in there that you want to try as well – I know I sure did. You would think I have seen just about everything that is out there, if not tried it, but I haven’t. I found several things that I am going to check out at my next opportunity – I hope you will too!

Sadly, it is pouring down rain today, so am not going to get a really good test of these, but my time will come. The product line includes lotions and sprays ranging from SPF 15 through 50. They are all “highly water resistant,” and formulated with UVA & UVB sunscreens, a “proprietary mineral complex, essential vitamins and rich moisturizers that have all proven to be effective in the fight against premature aging.” They also have specialized products in the line for the face, and for after sun skin care. They smell great (”soapy” and clean, just enough *beachy*), and are not greasy at all. I have been using the SPF 30 spray ($22, 8.5 oz) on my arms every day – I love sunscreen in spray form, it is just so much more convenient. I can’t wait to give them a run for their money on the beach – I will soon enough, I suppose.

From my prior experience with Ahava products, I know these are going to be awesome. I am all about the Dead Sea Minerals in my skin care, there is a reason the Dead Sea has such a healing reputation – and with anti-aging properties, and sun protection, Ahava has a combination product here that is almost a necessity. For me, anyway.

Olay and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery have joined efforts this month, in honor of Skin Cancer Awareness month, and they are inviting you and a friend to get a free skin cancer screening.

Their premise is that if you have a friend there with you to hold each others hand and be brave together, you will get a screening done, whereas if left to your own devices, you might not do this important task. And did I mention it was FREE? There are 3000 dermatologists participating across the country, you can find one near you right here. I hope you will take advantage of this, and remember to just look and be aware of the skin you’re in – you might notice something wrong WAY before it becomes a huge problem.

If you haven’t read it before, here is my skin cancer story. I was 36 when I got it – this is not a problem just for older folks. Pay attention, wear that sunscreen, and embrace self tanner!

This is Fusion Beauty’s GlowFusion spray tanner. Yes, I am back in tanning mode after taking a little time off for winter. I have lusted for this since last year when it came out, and finally sprung for it. This puppy is a cool $175 (at Sephora), but overall, it is money well spent. What do I like so much about it that makes it worth that kind of money, you might ask? Well, first and foremost, it is cordless and rechargable. I really would not have appreciated this so much if I hadn’t been using a sprayer with a cord, and a large hose attached to the air compressor for so long – but I have, and *boy* do I appreciate it! Also, this unit is not drippy and leaky, like the one I have used for the last couple of years. The spray mist is fine enough, but not so fine that it takes forever to spray on your tan.

Ok, what don’t I like? Yep, there are some things I don’t particularly care for. This unit is all plastic, and to me this feels like it isn’t going to last a terribly long time. I might be totally wrong here, only time will tell. I have been using this one for nearly a month, and its doing a great job, but it will take a whole lot more than one month for me to get my money’s worth out of it. I also cannot spray upside down, which makes it a little harder than it has to be to reach my back side (I mean my back…lol). But thats ok – my last gun, if I turned it upside down, it would spray, but I would get all those drips running down my hand and arm, so I didn’t spray upside down anyway. Also, I really don’t like Fusion’s tanning solution. I can’t tell where it really tans me much at all. I could use it every day if I needed to because it is so convenient, but who has time for all that. I like to tan once or twice a week. Now, their tanning solution does smell good! But, I think it smells good because it doesn’t have much DHA in it. It does have lots of yummy cocoa scent though – I smell like a big candy bar when I spray it on. But, food smells are not my favorite scents, I would rather have a tan and smell like self tanner, honestly.

So, I am still using my O2 tanning solution from O2 Cosmetics – I love it, and it works perfectly in this gun. Are any of you into spray tanning at home? If not, you should be. You save a lot of money, a lot of time, and, well, I think the tan is better than what you can get out of a lotion. Although I admit, I still use lotions too – I just have such a fetish for trying new things.

Or not to tan, that is the question. For me, going pasty is not an option, and sun tanning is not an option either. I don’t do the sun, so this year I am trying the new Glow Fusion spray tanner, it has some great advantages over other spray tanners – it is cordless, rechargeable, and refillable. There are also some great new lotions out to choose from including Dove Beauty’s Energy Glow with subtle self tanners, and the less subtle tans available from lines like Xen-Tan. The more subtle products are easier to apply, but with the more dramatic tanning products, be sure to be freshly bathed, very well exfoliated, and if you have some particular parts that you know always absorb too much tan, put a bit of lotion on them first, and you will have much better results!

Laser treatments are so popular these days, they can remove age spots, sun spots, wrinkles and unwanted hair. I really have never given these things too much of a second thought – I thought they were pretty safe, and I guess they are for the most part, but if they are botched, they are really botched. Here are a couple pictures, the first one is of a botched sun spot removal, and the second one is a botched hair removal. Read the accompanying article at the ABC web site if you didn’t see the story on Good Morning America last week. And check out all the pictures. Yikes.
