Whether you’re in that critical phase right after a breakup, or if you’re PMS’ing and having one of those unexplainable cravings – it’s definitely a no-no to make midnight snacking part of your routine.
This is especially true if you’re trying to lose weight. The general rule is that you should eat your dinner four hours before bedtime. If you need to hit the sack at an early hour, try to keep your night munchies light. Whatever caloric loss you incurred at dinner – you can make up for it by eating a heavier breakfast or lunch the next day.
The idea is to eat about 2/3 of whatever number of calories that you’re supposed to consume during the day. At night is when your body becomes inactive – so the calories that you consumed right before sleeping is bound to show off on your thighs, hips and buttocks.
Learning to curb your appetite at night and steering clear of the midnight snacking habit will help you reach your ideal weight goal faster.

I am PMS’ing and I am up for my late night snack, actually :))
But you are so right about it being bad for your weight, after I read your post I am just having some honey (instead of chocolate :( ) and tea…
