Jail-bound socialite Paris Hilton urged fans today to sign a petition to pardon her 'mistake' because she provides beauty and excitement to '(most of) our otherwise mundane lives'.

Hilton's plea, on her MySpace website, came as her lawyers filed a notice with the court indicating their intent to appeal. The document is required before a formal appeal can be lodged.
