13 Facts about dating a writer

If you've ever dated a writer, you know that we are not the easiest creatures to be involved with.

Dating a writer can be exciting, because we are very imaginative,...

in every way...

but like everyone, we have our highs and lows and it's not always all rainbows and butterflies.

We are sensitive, complex, detached and at the same time, we terribly need you.

So here's what to expect and how to crack the code...

1. We'll cancel a night out.

That's right!

It's not you, it's us..

or better, it's the urge to write, like..right here, right now.

We just gotta sit and write, write, write...

because there is no greatest relief than getting an idea out of our mind...

2. we'll be grumpy as hell...

Those are the dreaded days...Some days you'll just have to deal with it - if our writing is terrible or if we are not getting enough writing hours, you'll just have to bear with us and give us space.

Alternatively, a cup of tea and fresh flowers are always appreciated.

3. we'll be over the moon too !

So, our article finally made it to the front page and we've gone viral, we've sold our script and we've just been commissioned a new book...what this means to you is that you are living with the happiest human ever.

Congratulations !

4. we'll make lots of tea...

...and we will not always finish it.

Sometimes, there will be half empty cups left, to cool down in the process.

Tea gets cold, get over it.

Beverages are a ritual.

5. we'll have A crew.

SEO, CSS, WPM,..

these people get us.

These people know the struggle and laugh hard at our jokes.

We'll all get together over a few drinks at least once a month, and we'll brag about how far each of us is in finishing the greatest American novel...

We will come back home eventually, with a bunch of new stories just for you...

6. we'll disappear...

You can say that writers are like cats.

You'll just have to give us space to get in the zone and create until we feel like we have done something valuable with our day...

7. we'll spend hours searching for the right word/phrase

You'll learn all about the benefits of Thesaurus and how using a synonym opens up doors to a whole new world of possibilities..

8. we'll put you in a story...

If a character sounds like you, acts like you, ends up in familiar situations, but has a different name,...

chances are, it's actually you.

Don't take it personally.

9. we'll always talk about that book we're still Finishing...

No, really, this time, we are really almost done..

it's like..almost published...

10. we'll stop for an idea...

When inspiration strikes, time stops and you'll learn it once you've spent enough time around us.

It's like a bad selfie addiction.

Once again, bear with us.

11. we'll create drama...

It's not personal, it's strictly business.

Once in a while we will put our imagination to test and get really dramatic.

Kindly take us back to the laptop..

yes, we might growl a little, but we will end up thanking you.

12. we'll hang out with dodgy peeps because they are character material...

Okay, let's be clear : we know that our friend Meave is an absolute nutcase, but Maeve is interesting and interesting is what we are after.

We are not hanging out with dodgy people, because we have nothing else to do with our life.

We are actually working on producing unique content with complex characters...

13. we'll never choose.

My ex once suggested that I should get a regular job, as in, office based with rigid hours.

I am not saying that we can't combine a 9-5 with a career in writing.

We might actually have to do just that in beginning.

However, in the end, we expect you to support us in our choices, even though we might not be billing loads right away.

Don't ever try to monitor our writing either, it just won't work.
